Afternoon all!

I currently am driving a BMW M135i that I have had for 10 months, my plan is to sell the BMW in the Autumn and save over the winter for a Cayman. I plan on a budget of £30k. With depreciation do you think that the latest Cayman model would be within reach by February/March time?

Test drove a 2011 model on Sunday but think it best to save for something I really want!

Any comments gratefully received!

Thanks,
Chris

I think you'd be lucky to find one for £30k in 12 month's time unless it was leggy and outside of the OPC network. I would expect to pay at least mid £30's for a Cayman and closer to £40k for an S.

Agree with Trev, think you'll probably need more than 30k unless you're not bothered by spec and/or mileage

Disappointing but thanks for being honest, might have to spend that little bit more!

I would love to buy from someone on here who has cared for the car as I would, anyone planning to sell early 2015?!

Who knows though. I reckon you'll need 32-33k maybe a little bit more if u want top spec. So you're not miles off by any means

To be honest the spec is not that important to me, the condition would be the deciding factor!

Cheers

I agree With the above comments. You will be very lucky to find a new shape Cayman for 30K. OPC's are able to sell anything they get at the moment. People are not prepared to wait for a new car so are paying good money for good quality second had.

Out of interest, what's prompted the desire move from the M135i to the Cayman?

I drove both the cars for a day before deciding on the Cayman, but would say it was a tough call between the two, but admittedly that was taking cost in to the equation too. Bang for buck the M135i is probably one of the best new cars out there at the moment. Every other car in the class is woefully dull to drive.

Keep an eye on the classifieds, with the introduction of the new GTS model, this may have some impact on the other models, particularly the S if the budget can stretch. You mention condition is important, so something in the dealer network with a warranty is probably the safest bet.

Agree with comments above - a 981 will be mid 30s at least. These cars are going for £55k new with a couple of options on them.

A 987 Cayman R might be closer to budget...

Being honest it comes down to the heritage of Porsche and desire to own one! The M135i is incredible, effortlessly fast reaching jail baiting speeds all to quickly. Perhaps however to fast, the 2011 Cayman I drove at the weekend although not anywhere near as fast on paper felt faster due to noise and seating position.

I will be keeping my eyes peeled and no doubt creep the budget up to £31k!

In March 2015 31k would very likely buy mine, it would be 15 mths old with 21 mths warranty remaining.

Oh, and it will have 40,000 miles on it....

just fyi.. i bought a 4 yr old cayman S (2006 at that time) for close to 30k from an OPC. even if it's a private sale w/o OPC warranty and low spec, doubt you'll be able to get a 1 yr old for 30k...

Spec is very basic, 2.7 pdk, guards red, Cayman s wheels, cruise, bluetooth prep, half leather seats, sound package plus, rain sensor wipers, parking sensors f/r and I think that is it. Out of the country at the moment but happy to post pics later. Oh and sports steering wheel.

When I have looked at jumping into a newer Cayman base model, the price difference was quite big.

I suspect the list prices went up across all models and factor in PDK for most of them, they have moved up. I purchased my manual Cayman for around £30k and it was 6 months old a few years ago. Would not pick up the new model for the same price and age now.
