Well, the Spyder is gone, Cayman S is in...

So, picked up this beauty on Friday from OPC Nottingham.



So far, so good. One private owner car re-sold by its original supplying dealer.

Red, black interior, heated sports seats plus, PDK, flappy paddles, cruise, leather interior, lady parking, 20" satin platinum wheels with coloured centre caps, light design package, sports tailpipes, PCM3 with sound system plus, mobile phone prep, no doubt something else I've forgotten. Basically a GTS without PASM and sports exhaust, a few extra bhp and a £15k + saving.



I will need to do at least 5k extra motorway miles before Christmas, have had the Spyder 4 years and so swerved major service, spark plugs, brake fluid change, warranty extension and original front tyres won't last forever so the time seemed right.

Have to say, am lovin' it so far. Can live without sports exhaust in this type of car and standard suspension seems an excellent compromise.

Not as upset at the absence of the Spyder as I thought I would be...

Surprisingly well.

I need something that can do 300 mile round trips down the M6 and now seemed like towards the end of the Spyder selling window for this season.

I thought it could be a "compromise" car but I have to say I am overjoyed so far. It is different enough not to stand a direct comparison too which is good I think.

Glad you're enjoying it. I've no doubt that you will love it more and more as time goes buy. I changed my Spyder for a 981 Boxster S for the same reasons as you, and I'm surprised how little I've missed it. It made great financial sense to invest in upgrading to a nearly new car with a fabulous saving. You car looks great in red. Mine is red too and I had it professionally buffed this week. I didn't think it could look better than they day I collected it, but I'm stunned at the result.

Glad you are enjoying the new car Rob; I've contacted Notts and just waiting for them to confirm the price etc. Suspect they are going to be silly with the price following the service, warranty extension etc but we'll see.

Had a wander around Notts OPC today and noticed a red Spyder in the outside compound - looked a bit scruffy so perhaps that's also due for the market soon?

Nice car you've swapped to there Rob. I remember reading when you bought the spyder too. Tempted myself, as the current crop of box/caymans are so useable one minute and so close to the perfect sports car another they make great all rounders, I'm just nervous that in my budget I'll always regret moving the Spyder on!

Nearly a month and 1500 miles in. It serves its purpose well, Spyder would have spent much of that parked in the garage.

Objectively on most levels it is better than the Spyder by miles but... It's a far better all rounder but on the right road in the right weather the Spyder is in a different league!

Looks great Rob. I am collecting mine at then end of next week ( fingers crossed) and can't wait. Anything you don't like about it ? On paper and from the reviews i have read everyone seems to love it.

I have had a 996, and a 997 gen I and gen II Carrera but the 2014 Cayman really does seem the better option now.

The worst thing about it was the brightness of the red LED light in the middle of the dashboard to say that the doors were locked - says it all really. The good news is that someone posted on here how to turn that off!

I really like it, it is an excellent car.

Glad to hear you are so happy with it. I made a bit of a last minute decision and they had this one already in the system, ( actually sat at the docks waiting for a dealer to sign up) so i went with it. Pretty much all that i would spec ( except cruise is missing, and i wouldn't have chosen to pay for dual A/C )
