Hi guys just wondered if anyone has lowered a generation 2 cayman s?
I've got a 2010 S but without the PASM so its sitting like a 4x4 and wondered if anyone has lowered there's and if so what springs did you use?
Thanks

fit a set of Cayman R shocks, springs and ARB and enjoy a very sweet set up.

fitting £100 springs to a £60k car is a bit daft imo.

Thanks for your replies guys, just looking for the springs as wanting the arches to have a closer relationship with the wheels.
Don't really want to go down the replacing springs, shocks etc road if I can help it.

it might upset the balance of the car which Porsche work hard to get.

R drop is 20mm and the car will handle better than you could think possible.

you would have to be mad to try springs, imo, car will also need a full geo remember.

Springs and shocks are intimately related - you can't really do one without the other

which while ok on our old fords which cost 5k to have a 60k gen 2 Cayman and just put some lower stiffer springs on it seems daft.

The shock will now be in a more compressed state, and I guess the springs rates from H&R are a lot stiffer.

Shocks are matched to springs which are matched to ARB stiffness.

but yes as long as the springs rates are within 100lbs the shocks don't need a revalve so you are then just making the shock work in a shorter range, which may reduce it's life.
by the time you have bought the springs. had them fitted and had a full geo is it worth it ?

to fit the gen 2 passive sports sus is not even that expensive imo, and will really transform the car to some quite exciting and a much worthwhile spend.

As you can now buy a gen 2 S for about 15k less than a R I would have thought many owners would have fitted a oem R set up by now, but it seems not (they love it in the USA)

All of this just makes me wonder why Porsche bother with R&D when they could just come on here and find the answer straight away.

"Hans! zee spring rates ve haf reserched for zee pest 12 months! ALL Shiezenhausen!!!!! Der Pistonschlaphead heff zee anser....Schnell to Demon Tweeks for zee H&M springs Yah? Raus!!!!"

Apologies to any Germans watching.

Since the introduction of the 987 the cars have looked far too jacked up on the standard suspension. A drop is almost a necessity to stop it looking like a clown car.

what is the drop ?

I said go for the R kit as it's 20mm dropped

you stated that's might not be enough for the OP, but than later stated to me the H&R don't drop it much ?

which is it ?

I would go with what demon suggested. If you use the oem r spring kit you won't burn your warranty.

Thanks for your replies guys. The car has a warranty wise policy on it till march 15, so I'll have a read through it see what they say.
Looked into the H & R springs with a 30mm drop as these look to be the best option at the minute.

I'll have to disagree. That looks all wrong.

I lowered my 997 turbo with a lowering spring kit from TechArt. The result is almost stock ride quality but handles better in corners and looks better. Keeps the PASM system so win win in my book.

Cork sniffer? I have no idea what you mean but I presume it's not a sommelier.

Here's an R

It's lower than and S and looks right/better.
The previous one looked as though it was giving a lift to a fat woman. (Or maybe your self importance)

If you can't see that then it calls into question what you've been sniffing.

it is the trend to be low and have a stretch on your wheels though :-p as cars get cheaper you start to see chav'ed up Boxsters and Caymans.

if you cannot see all the tyre it's wrong, and when people lower they end up with massive camber also which looks wrong, add in the stretch tyre to complete the look and the 60mm spacers.

I agree the stock Cayman now looks stupid with that arch gap but there is a fine line and the R does look right.

but we are seeing more chaved up 911's now the 996 is 10k

wtf is wrong with people and this st trend, and on some forums on here people posting how cool it looks !!! esp Mini area !

I think ilduce's point is that the R's lines look right, whereas the other Cayman just looks lowered! Maybe it is the angle from front to back - I think the R maintains the same line as the normal Cayman, just lower; by contrast, the aftermarket version looks a bit "flatter", if you know what I mean.

It may all be subjective. Rs just look f+cking awesome.

MrD, that orange 911 is one of the most abominable things I have ever seen. It hurt my eyes. Make it stop.
