As the title says, I have just driven back from OPC Portsmouth after they fitted my sports exhaust.

I now have, for me, the perfect spec Cayman S.

It sounds great, I'll give it a proper blast tonight on the way to out Bournemouth pub meet.

Great (for Porsche) price from Portsmouth too.

I think you need a detour via the A3 tunnel at Hindhead for some 'exhaustive' testing :P

Rest assured, that is on the cards. We are off to Brighton in a couple of weeks, so there's another nice tunnel there too.

Coming from the C63, it's nice to hear the exhaust it can be a bit muted on the Merc.

Do you mind saying how much they charged? Was it some kind of special price? I'd checked Portsmouth before and they seemed to be charging full retail on the parts plus charging slightly more hours than Guildford for the fitting.

£1800 all in. So in my eyes, not too bad at all.

They were happy for me to spread the word.

I've dealt with Portsmouth OPC a couple of times and found them to be reasonable on price too. Just recently got a price for two new rear tyres from them which was the same as quoted by a number of tyre fitting companies with the added bonus of knowing they won't biff my PCCB's.

@TackMEU: Thanks for the reply. Just to check, this is £1,800 inc VAT. correct? I just checked my email from Porsche Portsmouth. In April they wanted £2,475.87 inc VAT for the exhaust and the interior switch / associated vacuum tubes. I passed. But at £1,800 it is another story.

It is crazy that they would have quoted me such a higher price. Geeze... What did I do to deserve that!? Probably dropping in for too many cappuccinos. Please would you PM me the contact in parts that you dealt with?

I will do so tonight.

Have you heard one with PSE?

Yes, I have and it sounds great. I had PSE on my prior 997 and I miss it on my 981. I've also listened to videos (rather than mk 1 ear) to the aftermarket boys attempts. Although some of the aftermarket weight less and deliver a few extra bhp, I think that the PSE sounds the best. Plus the interior switch is neat and useful for not annoying people.

With the added bonus of no issues come extended warranty time.

I'm considering getting PSE for my 981 CS but I'd really like to hear one first. The dealer didn't have one to try and when I was at Silverstone they also didn't have one. The did have a GTS there but they wouldn't let me drive it, only sit in it and rev it in the car park which wasn't very satisfactory.

I don't have sports chrono so I'm wondering if I will get the pops and crackles on overrun since there's no sport + button? Does sport+ change the engine map to give the pops?

It crackles on the over run when in Sport.

I can confirm that you do not need sport chrono to get pops and crackles if you have the PSE.

Does anyone have PSE with a manual 'box? If so, do you also get to enjoy the pops and crackles? Just wondering if they are triggered by some form of PDK driven electrickery....

My car is manual, it pops 'n' crackles, but it has sport chrono, so it rev matches on downshift. Not sure if it does it without that or not.

The PSE for the 981 is perfect IMO; don't know why anyone would go aftermarket, and i normally always do change the exhaust within weeks!

Manual sounds just as good as PDK cars, both sound just as good with or without sport chrono. PSE will sound great no matter what other options you go for.
