I am soon to take delivery of my new Cayman GTS in Carmine Red and I am keen to seek input from fellow Cayman owners in the following areas;

I understand that Caymans are liable to stone chips on the front and around the rear air intakes, do you agree?

Has anyone used 3M Venture Shield on a Cayman and what were your experiences?

Porsche dealer is offering a £3k insurance pot for three years touch up service for stone chips, has anyone every taken this and in reality how many repairs does this include and is it any good?

As my car gets older I imagine it may need a front freshen respray to keep it looking it's best, is this what everyone does, how much are people paying to keep the car looking fresh in later years?

Any other tips about keeping a Cayman at it's cosmetic best externally (it's a weekend/fun car for me and yes it's an extravegance)

I don't like film on cars, but that's a personal choice.

Get some zymol wax and do it every 1/4
Also wax your wheel to make life easier on cleaning.

I have had my Cayman 981 for over a year now and found that the front does seem to get chips more than I have had on other sport cars.

The bodywork around rear wheel arch is covered in small hits from stones but you have to be down cleaning wheels or that area of car to notice it, though my car is white could be worse on dark colour.

I intend to go for one of these chip repair firms instead of full re spray at end of this summer.

Could not comment on film as never used it but if it can be applied to that area of wheel arch then may work.

I have a Spyder which I bought new 4 years ago. I had Ventureshield fitted from new - front bumper, wing mirrors, sills, front panels ahead of air intakes. Car still looks like new. The car is white and there is no sign of any discolouration. Very easy to clean fly residue off too. I'd recommend it. Cost was £480.

Thanks all for your input, I'm keeping the car for a long time so I want to keep re=sprays to a minimum in the earlier years. I'll go with film, but not VentureShield. I had a terrible experience with it once and almost wholly down to the fitter rather than the product. I however will continue and have a better film and fitter who I will use. He won't charge me anything unless I am happy with the job, as opposed to the five attempts before the paint came off my brand new jag with Venture shield last time, MMM (3M) were involved in the various stages of resolution, but were frankly pointless apart from providing free film to have another go. Don't try and get your car fitted in Telford.

I used Paintshield in Peterborough for my Aventador. They did an excellent job and will travel if Peterborough too far for you. Their film is pre-cut so no damage to your car and it self heals by pouring hot water on it if you get swirl marks. They are not cheap though! Highly recommended.

Xpel Ultimate is often referred as the best you can get at the moment.. and I think thats what PaintShield offer

I think also Topaz installs it now if you are in the London area. I will 100pct fit it to my next car.. Everytime I am following traffic I cringe and pray that I dont get sprayed with the residues of our very poorly maintained road network..

Sounds sensible to fit good quality film. My car does not have film and I am regretting it... lots of very minor stone chips on front spoiler. Hardly noticeable but when you take the time to clean and wax, then you notice them. c500 gbp sounds like a decent investment. c.3k paint insurance sounds like a poor idea IMO.
