Hi all,

Just wanted some advice regarding events from earlier today:

First, my vehicle has been booked in at an OPC for a defective trim panel by the steering column. It also has an intermittent fault whereby it folds the mirrors on the lock button from the key but doesn't actually lock the car. As far as I know, this isn't a feature on the car and it is quite irritating when it decides it doesn't want to lock itself.

I was advised by the OPC that the part was a special order item and they would notify me when it would be with them. I then receive a telephone call approximately two weeks ago to advise me to book in for the work to be carried out. This was followed up with a courtesy call yesterday evening. I actually confirmed on a telephone call that the part was with the OPC.

I arrived at the OPC this morning to be informed that the part had not arrived and was expected on 9 July. I was unable to speak to them for a resolution immediately as I had to get back for a meeting and I was being delayed.

Since then, I have spoke with the DP who has advised that they would be willing to collect my vehicle and drop it back to me and fill it up with fuel too. Do you think this is suitable resolution? My concerns are firstly, I'm not particularly happy with someone else driving my car 50 miles roundtrip and looking at the fact I've wasted the best part of three hours of my time having done nothing wrong it is extremely frustrating.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

My first 981cs did the same and my brand new one also does this with the wing mirror folding and doors not locking

I agree, however would not want someone driving my car for a 50 mile journey, suggest a different approach. What gets me with OPC's and there are a few exceptions, are that the people working within them, do not match the brand.

No real sense of apathy for people spending their hard earned on a product which is perceived to be premium..

Was overhearing a conversation today between a mechanic and a service adviser about a car that they no long stocked a part for (gearbox problem). As far as I was concerned, I could have been in a Vauxhall dealer if I closed my eyes. This stuff worries me sometimes..

Is it actually a fault Mark? Was it rectified?

It's fine. That's a perfectly good resolution. They made a cockup and then they fix it with no further effort from you. Regarding them driving it, I can't see a problem.

Don't think they even looked at it as this was minor compared to the rest of the faults (they just gave me a new car in the end) and the new cars only 2 weeks old and in a garage having Techart kit fitted so not even reported it yet mate. I think it's a fault as it didn't do it for the first 4 months of ownership

Very annoying, but nobody died. Can you not just take it back yourself and get them to pay the petrol costs and perhaps throw in a few Porsche freebies to make up for their incompetence?

I'd agree. If you really don't want the car driven by them though you could try insisting they use a transporter instead (but don't expect the car filled with fuel).

If I had wasted 3 hours on the strength of incorrect information provided via courtesy call from the OPC confirming that the parts were available and then arrived the following day to find that they weren't actually in stock I would be issuing the DP with an invoice for the waste of my time. A request for gbp900 would at least focus their minds and make them realise the true cost of their poor administration. I would be wanting more than someone tanking my car up and down the road and a free tank of petrol as recompense for my wasted effort.

Let's be honest they're not exactly going to be sympathetic with it are they? The mechanic asks the service manager why are we picking this car up and the response is he's made a complaint. I don't mind driving my own car aggressively but that's different to someone you don't know from Adam.

The mechanic would have nothing to do with having the car picked up, they will have staff who do nothing all day other than transport, move and wash cars. Driving your car will not be a big thrill or new experience for them - they drive Porsches all day, it's routine and not just in cases where there's been a complaint.

What I'm saying is try not to worry too much.

I would arrange to drive there yourself when it's most convenient for you and get a courtesy vehicle.. so you can drive it back there when most conveniente to you to pick up your car ?

That way you don't stress that somebody is driving your car, you get a nice replacement puppy to sport around, you keep moving whilst your car is being repaired. Ask for a nice car now that they are feeling guilty

It's a PDK - what can they do to it, other than crash or kerb the wheels?

Very little, and the all the delivery guys I've met working for OPC's have been anything but young tearaways - they've all had grey or no hair, and do the job all day long - the OPC wouldn't keep them in the job if they weren't safe and reliable.

I got them to give 991 carrera 2s when they were pissing me about. Had it for a week and went travelling to see friends adding miles to their car. You have a £500 excess so a good time to practice drifting without risking effecting your own insurance. smile

what the goose said..
same here - I go out of my way (literally...) to use OPC Cambs, and that this sometimes meant them collecting my car and dropping it back off.
I have no worries what so ever with their service levee for this - the guys that pick up / drop off are great.
I've also been in the car as a passenger with one driving previously - thought he'd been on a defensive driving course !

worst case - they are insured

No worries whatsoever.
