It has only occured to me that this might be a problem, but 6mths in and I am loving the audible noise that comes from the engine when changing the gears. This is particually pronounced when in low gears/low rev's with the top down.

Is this normal or have I been enjoying the warning sound of my first engine blow up?

Perhaps if I better define this as a 'clunking' mechanical sound I will elicit a response. The fact that I haven’t makes me wonder if it is really just my car.

It would also help if you mentioned what the car is: engine, manual/pdk, etc

Assuming that it is a manual transmission, my Cayman has a very positive gearchange that can sound clunky (you can almost hear the selectors being pushed into place) when it is not being drowned out by the engine running at full chat... :-)

Hearing the linkage moving is not unusual in mid engined cars - my Cayman is audible with the radio off...
