Hi all,

I picked up my new S at the beginning of the week and absolutely love it. Having done a few hundred miles in it, I decided to wash it. I immediately noticed on the rear bumper, by the number plate that there were some stubborn watermarks after drying it.

Tried to get rid of them with a detailer spray first, it did not shift, then tried some clay bar, still would not shift. It appears to be under the lacquer. As the car is black, seems very noticeable. Anyone had any experience of this?

Thanks G

Not been yet, only noticed this evening. Will pop in tomorrow. Hoping there maybe something that can be done, without a respray.

Should have checked it better when I picked it up, however I think the excitement took over and I missed it...

Is it metallic black? Mine 981 is solid black...I've had it for a year now and covered 31,000.....it's heart breaking how many chips etc. it's picked up...especially around the rear wheel arch.

They can't fix anything that's under the lacquer.

I agree without pic to check it's probably bird muck and run off from how it's been stored pre pre delivery clean. It will need a more agressive polish to remove some lacquer to get rid of it but should be fine afterwards

If you are based in London I don't mind taking a look at it for you. I'm in Knightsbridge area.

So the wife dropped it into the dealers over the weekend, as I was out. They machine polished it, however still can see these little marks, especially in direct light.

Picture is not great, had to use flash - however you can sort of see the spots.

Luckily it appears to be isolated to only under the number plate area on the bumper. Not sure whether I should just live with it or go back to OPC.

i'd send it back and ask them to machine it again. I wouldn't respray the whole bumper as best to leave it factory fresh. V.annoying.

Perhaps it had a bump & a refinish at the factory & it wasn't cleaned properly.

Looks like run off of something which has stained the laquer.

They need to polish it until its removed. If its right through the laquer it will need a respray but it probably is not. I think its just a matter of standards and they hit a point of "that will do" which would differ to my acceptable finish on a new car.

But at the end the day they could easily claim it happened after you took delivery so you have to treat this as goodwill to a large degree.

That mark will pale to insignificance once your inner rear arches are chipped almost down to the bare plastic within a few 1,000 miles!
