Hi All

Anyone had experience of a relatively lightweight "clonking" sound from the front suspension of their 987 Cayman/Boxster? My 08 RS60 is now doing it and I understand track control arm bushes might be the cause....

cheers

Could be a few things.

So far on my 07 I've changed the following:

track rod ends- I think they were rattling
Lower control arm "Coffin arms"- the bushes were squeeking
Control/support arm (shaped like a tuning fork)- it was a very light rattle only over very small surface irregularities. Can be checked by swapping them from side to side (same part left and right) and seeing if the noise moves.

If it's the last one, buy them online from someone like design 911 and get them fitted by a local garage- it's wheel off, two bolts and a 10 minute job. No geo needed.

From my research they generally fail in that order- TRE-COFFIN-SUPPORT
so maybe it's the TRE but will depend on your mileage and if anything else has been changed before.

Don't you just love Porches chocolate suspension.

On mine, it was the front tuning fork arms, or as JZM called them, the diagonal arms.

I lived with the noise for quite a while as the OPCs could never diagnose where exactly the noise was coming from, insisting everything was ok. In the end I pointed them in the direction of the tuning fork arms after advice from JZM, who said they change loads on 987s, and they found a fair amount of play in the tuning fork arms. Not sure how they missed it up until then.

996 - C2 - 55K

I was having quite a bit of noise recently and changed the anti roll bar links. Made some difference, but not a lot. I then sprayed every rubber bush with silicon rubber lubricant and it made a lot of difference. I also sprayed the bump stops at the top of the shock absorbers. I think I will spray these joints every 6 months.
