Ive got a 987 Gen 2 (2007) which for the past 18 months or so has been occasionally unresponsive when locking / unlocking using the remote. All of the times this happened (probably once or twice a month for 18 months) I was able to open the car by pressing the button over and over, whilst walking nearer towards the car and it would eventually unlock. Only once in this period after not driving the car for about 3 weeks did i have to open the door using the key and start the engine, after that it was fine again for another 10 months or so.

The other day it was unresponsive and i thought the same thing had happened, after trying over and over for a couple of minutes i opened with the key in the door and got the in the seat, the alarm went off, i put the key in the ignition the alarm went off and i started the engine, ever since this time (about 2 weeks ago) I have not been able to open the car remotely and have to open it using the key every day, setting off the alarm (which is then disabled by putting the key in standby). The central locking on the dashboard still works, but only with the key in standby. (The difference with this time is that i had driven the car every day prior)

Has anybody come across this before, is its a known fault / does any one know what it might be and how to remedy it ?

Firstly a 2007 car is a gen1!secondly have you replaced the battery in the key fob!

Good points, it defiantly a Gen 2 (may be wrong about 2007, its a uk 57 plate which i believe is sep 07 - mar 08).

The small red led still flashes when pressed on the remote (so i guess that its still got power) although i will change to fully rule it out.

Apologies, just been reading up, by Gen 2 i meant the 245 PS version brought out in 2007, rather than the Gen 2 (2008/9)

I have a very similar problem with a 2011 987.

My first attempt at a fix was to change the fob battery, but after about 5 days I'm back to the same problem. So if anyone knows what is going on please let us know.

I presume you know the alarm/remote locking goes into sleep mode if not used for 5 days??

I wasnt aware Wulfy66, does this sound like this is the case as when i open the car on the key the alarm still goes off ?

Either way how can it be reset once it goes into sleep mode ?

My Spyder does this. Unlock with the key then put key in ignition resets it.

With mine when it goes in to sleep mode I put the key in the door lock, turn it anticlockwise, remove and then this wakes it up to unlock with the keys remote button. This was the same procedure I used on my 986 Boxster as well

Lifting the door handle with the car still locked will wake it from sleep mode.
