How hard is it to find a decent Cayman R??
Discussion
White one with no decals or PSE just came up at JZM..........

Sounds suspiciously like the white one with no decals or PSE that was for sale in NI late last year when I was buying mine..........

Are they both the same car? No, so how can you tell its down to weight difference?
I have jumped from driving my 981 PDK Cayman S around the Anglesey Circuit to the passenger seat of David's Spyder and you can tell the weight difference from the passenger seat. Seriously. I put 22k miles on my own Spyder before that. I can even say with confidence that David's super light weight Spyder felt different to mine too.

Thing is, you don't really know how much of that difference in feel is down to pure weight differences vs various differences in the car (981 to 987 suspension, etc.), different tyres, different geometry, cognitive bias, grip levels, weather, etc.I put 22k miles on my own Spyder before that. I have never had the chance to drive a lightened version of any car I have had but I used to be able to feel the difference in the TVR's with a passenger in them and that would be in the same car on the same day and same weather conditions.
I was surprised how much you could tell the difference between the lightweight wheels I had for the Tuscan and the Sagaris and the standard ones aswell.

Experience :-) After owning over 50 cars from 800kg lotus to v8 heavy weights , weight is the 1st thing which stands out when driving imo.
Any way as Rob has been out in my car he knows what I am taking about :-)
My Spyder feels like driving a large exige, it's not far off the V6 exige weight once you add up the V6 extra and lotus figures
I think most people would be shocked driving it, hence why I still have it, lightest car Porsche have made since the 964rs lightweight. (I think)
Put a passenger in a 125bhp Elise and the car feels dead, while 70kg does not affect the Spyder to the same level, have 70kg more in a Spyder is a hugh change in feel and ESP in brakes and braking points.

Thank you, my point exactly. We can all tell the difference between having a passenger and not in the same car! (Because we are all professional racing drivers and part time company directors)

And if we got too fixated with it we'd run around with a teaspoon of fuel because the difference between a full and empty tank is about the weight of a passenger (well me at least). We can all tell the difference between having a passenger and not in the same car! You may not notice the difference on the road (unless you are making a particular effort to notice, perhaps), but on track, you will feel a tangible difference having a passenger in the car (or, driving a Spyder that is 70kg lighter than a Cayman).
A difference in weight is a distinct feeling independent of other differnces (tyres, geo etc).

To be fair, its not difficult to notice the effect the weight of a passenger has on a lightweight car or if your car is running a tailored geometry. The effect in some cases can be quite pronounced.Weight of a passenger in a BMW X5? Difficult to tell
Weight of a passenger in a Lotus Elise? VERY noticeable

Ambitious price for a Silver car with no buckets imo,

Just picked my new R up on Saturday... it was the Grey one form Cameron. Never driven a 987.2 before and came out of a 997.2 GT3 CS. The car is exactly what I want and really enjoyed the drive back.
Has SS PSE Buckets Climate etc the only thing it doesn't have is Sport which I may retrofit if only for slacker PSM. I know it has slightly higher miles but 33,000 is only just run in and the amount I'm going to be doing I'll be slowly correcting the average. Would have liked the Xenons but it doesn't seem to be that many cars with them.
Also didn't want black white or green as a colour! That didn't leave many cars!

Cayman is just a better and more rigid platform that cries out for more of everything.
spyder pretty and unique but has fiddly roof and is certain to give you grief as a daily.
ultimately, it is just not a track car but actually a very fun weekend road car. used as such, you won't be disappointed.
CR has the other facet that has the capability of shining on track, just need proper mods and tyres. That's why for those that can pay, like exclusivity, there is nothing like a porsche track car with cage.....like the forthcoming Gt4......
if you drive only on road both overkill, my C63 much better buy (how many bloody points you got left?)
so as long as it is N/A, I don't buy for a single moment how the CR can be better. Porsche can only let down the Gt4 by not allowing Clubsport spec.
I really liked the GT3 CS.... But I found I'm just not going to get it on track enough and am less keen with it being a near £100k car. This meant it was doing road miles. The GT3 needs to be given it's legs and on fast A roads/ duel carriagesways it is too fast for any form of safe driving / license retention. Add to this alot of my local roads round the Peak District are bumpy B roads you were driving slowly so you don't ground the car or get tram lined off the lane.
So far the CR seems good, yes it isn't as quick in a straight line (does that matter!) my only criticism is the brake pedal feel isn't as good as the GT3 (Yes I know you can do a master cylinder swap) but to be honest other than that I'm very impressed and the car is quite happy on B roads.
We'll see how it goes but although early days I'm enjoying it. It will have a full service soon, sat nav update and sport chrono fitted.
Like the fact it is a bit rare in meteour grey. Does anyone know the numbers in each colour made?

do the master cylinder switch.. i was a skeptic,. but on track, the feel and progression is more confident inspiring.
as a daily driver, i actually think you can heel toe and blip better, have more control due to the longer travel and less firm response. (i don't like to use the word spongy on porsche brakes)
if you can heel and toe on a gt3 on public roads, this switch is more than worth it. IMO
your mileage may vary depending on your heel/toe skill

Nice car Fish, had seen it on the classifieds and must say I did like the grey.
Talking of satnav updates, I wonder if I need one as I don't have full post code search and keep going 'off-road' at some new motorway junctions! Does the update have the 7 digit search does anybody know? Sarnie?

Thats the first post I've seen about it, although I'm pretty sure mine has the full 7 digit postal code option.Talking of satnav updates, I wonder if I need one as I don't have full post code search and keep going 'off-road' at some new motorway junctions! I assume there will be a version number specified somewhere?
