Changing the steering wheel
Discussion
Will be changing the steering wheel over the winter.
Questions as follows please.
Can I disconnect the battery for 7 days while the wheel is being replaced and the airbag being removed. Will I do any damage to the ECU and will it have to re learn any settings?
Thanks for your help.

yep, i had my wheel re-trimmed recently. i had the wheel off for few hours, the only problem i had was when the battery was reconnected i had a PSM error, which cleared after a a few touches of the brake.
Did you use the guys at Royal (after our conversation) and if so were you pleased with it?wulfy66 said:

photo as promised. feels a lot better than the fine nappa. very happy
Hi, am thinking of getting the wheel done on my cayman but have seen there is either black or grey to choose from-which one did you pick? Also has the retrimming increased the diameter of the wheel by much as don't really want it to be much biggerEdited by rObArtes on Sunday 23 November 11:39
Thanks

I didn't realise they used that style wheel in the Gen2 cars?? Edited by rObArtes on Sunday 23 November 11:39
I was looking to use Royal to have exactly what you've done on exactly the same steering wheel...I ended up changing the cars instead, but always wanted the alcantara wheel in my old Cayman.

I went for Dark Grey, to give the interior some contrast. Yes the wheel comes back a little thicker and with thumb grips, not too thick, just right.
Royals do a great job
Looks a good contrast and a proper good job! Sorry when I said diameter I meant of the wheel in total across the face (i.e from hand to hand when holding at 3:15 position) rather than thickness of the rim,Royals do a great job
Thanks
