The prettiest Porsche Boxster?
Discussion
I prefer silver (...with ambers ) & with a black interior. Still the best colour for a 986 or 996.
Found this parked next to me at Donington DPRAC day last year
The 986 comes out surprisingly well in the comparison I think. I don't have any pics of mine with the roof down, which is when it looks best.

Interesting I never got the 986 in interior black..Looks wrong to me.
If I keep my one I'm going to re leather it in Maybe red. Haven't decided yet. I might do a black dash/wheel, carpet with red seats. I have a contact in the leather industry and would like it done properly, re-bolstered to better than mint spec. Cellular Ipad etc..

Agree, the 986 pre-facelift is the "prettiest" Boxster IMHO. I never liked the rear lights, squared off wheelarches and intakes on the 987, and although the Spyder is gorgeous, I'd say it's more purposeful than "pretty".
IMHO it's just got to be "classic" Porsche silver (Arctic or GT) with red or black interior and 18" wheels to fill the arches properly. Whilst I like ambers on dark coloured cars, on silver I prefer the de-ambered look too. I also actually prefer the looks of the larger, plastic window, it fills the space at the back of the hood better, although I'd love the practicality of glass. Gratuitous photospamming now...a year into ownership and none of the magic has gone yet! Car also now looks cleaner with a windscreen devoid of tax discs or stickers (apart from my little PH smiley!) and a much simpler private plate.

Shes an absolute peach, lovely car and rare in that condition, lovely.
"squared off wheel arches and intakes on the 987" are exactly the problem with the aesthetic of the 987. The intakes look chinsy and they lose even more rear muscle over the wheel arches. They should have been bigger on the 7. Guess that's where Porsche decided to compromise the car compared to a 911. Stupid, if they'd finished the back end of those Boxsters (986/987) it would have been even better.
The problem with black interiors in my mind is unless they're absolutely mint (and I'm being very anal here) they look scruffy, knackered and shiny. Never seen one with a properly executed seat re-upholster. I would probably redo mine in red, but well. I Think it will look perfect
I agree with regards amber sort of. If you have a concourse car then it should be as close to the original as possible but my black car just looks better on aftermarket. It's a slippery slope I know but I think my rear lights go someways to perfect the car. They are not the final revision but they definitely look better to my mind. As for the front lights, I've seen some really good Jap aftermarket lights around but am reluctant about going to far with all that. Saw the perfect ones once but missed the model number and can't find them again. They were a Porsche official but I think for another model. They were a clear light. Still very expensive.
Is that GT silver? She looks gorgeous on those wheels. How much was the polish?

I have to say I prefer the face lift clear lights, as you'll see in the photos aboe I had them fitted to my Lapis blue car and made a huge difference.
I prefer to go with aesthetics rather than concours for these kind of cars, lets face it the 986 is a long way off being a classic car.
My Mk2 XR2 is another matter, I have kept the original amber indicators etc on it becuase i'm going for a car that looks correct to the original and actually the clear indicators don't look right on a car in a era where clear indicators weren't generally available on new cars.

mmmh...
Also think plastic rear windows look better for the record (didn't realise you could get a bigger version) Don't even mind not being able to see a thing out of it if it's raining. You can always spot a a 986 from a 987 driver from afar if hes always getting in and out of the thing like a twit whilst trying to park the rear in a tight space in the rain. I must look like a perpetual twerp as I'm over 6ft...

Hi Beanoir.
I have to agree amber on that lapis blue car, sinful.
"lets face it the 986 is a long way off being a classic car" I'm assuming that's contextual right? I wouldn't say a long way off. I believe it's a promising candidate for a well kept car!!
