It's an odd one the new 981 SPyder.

too nice and grown up for a toy/ 2nd car , not nice enough as a daily single use car.

and of course no warranty if you dick about with it.
If you can use an X73 981 daily why wouldn't one consider the 981 Spyder a daily?

Is there any rear storage with the roof down?

I would have said this a couple of years ago too but hacing driven modded cars, there is something to be said for them! You do get far closer to what you want, which can only be a good thing.

Yes there is a rear boot - to be honest, I believe that it's fine as toy - no issues for me, no different to a 987 Spyder in that respect! Any 2 seat car is effectively a toy in my view!

The roof is the daily issue for me if it were just 1 car I owned, may as well buy a GTS with x73 and buckets and a nice roof. as I said, that's only imo, the car does not sit in my remit of cars I want to own.

it brings it's own issues if you fit a set of JRZ and RSS arms if you have sus knock or any other issues in that area.

Also no renewal of warranty allowed.

99% of sales will NOT add parts to a 981 Spyder for a few years.

Look YOU won't even add the GT3 MC to your car and you think it's the best mod ever on your old car with warranty FFS !!!

Fair comment. The roof is a bit more daily user friendly that a 987 Spyder. As much as I want a 987 Spyder the roof would just annoy me even as a second car. When I'm on a decent blast or out in Europe I don't want to have to fiddle too much with the roof if there is an unexpected shower. I also like to drive the car in winter and want to get the roof down as often as possible. The manual 981 roof sounds more like the manual roofs of 90s and previous sports cars - unlatch and throw it back.

I would say it takes just about the same time to do, because you still have to get out, walk round to both sides and undo the flaps and manual boot stays.

so same as the 987.2 car, it is a pitter esp in todays weather, last month in wales I had to drive roof up because of the showers, you would have to do the same in the 981 spyder, but my mates electric roof went up and down every time it stopped and he enjoyed the welsh roads when the sun came out in 20 minutes stints.

the old car was 2 pieces and you still get that open air noise and feeling just using the main top and leaving the back pout so the cars open, I drove a lot like that in the showers, a 1/2 way house so to speak, no such option in the 981 ;-(
plus when we did get out I could open my BOOT and get my coat, you cannot do that in the 981 either !

I was in Wales just this week for a 4 day blast and exactly the same! The odd shower was no problem as on my lowly 986 I can flick the roof up and on the go too. When the weather looks grim but is warm you can still drive roof down. It's a shame the roof isn't a simple manual lift up and down affair as for me that would be the best compromise.

some thing to be said for electric roof, it would have make the 981 Spyder a mega buy as a single only car, as it stands , it's stuck in a too soft for me toy status weekend car and poor single use car, imho of course.

I do keep thinking Audi S5 remapped for a daily and a Lotus Elise CUP for week ends lol that's my head talking, but I love my 987.2 Spyder to much to sell it !

I'd be happy enough with a manual roof for a second car and in keeping with the lighter weight ethos.

buy the 987.2 Spyder then, imo it's more pure and of course lighter than the new one, and No electric steering.
It's the perfect 2nd car unless you do want to run a Lotus.

That's the sort of roof I'm on about, a bit like a mk1 MX5, 2 latches flick back and job done. A bit lighter than a full electric but not as light as a piece of poppered on canvas. The chap opposite me at my last hotel stop in Wales had a 59 Elise. Looked great, cramped for luggage, but he took about 10 mins just to leave the car park messing about with the roof.

Also sometimes you want to have the roof down on the A/B roads but when you reach a higher speed motorway you want to put it up but not get out of the car! It's also nice just to quickly dash out to the pubs or shop and just get the roof down quickly!

I beg to differ...

What's the issue with access to the rear boot on the 981 Spyder?
Apart from when I went away for a weekend, I can't say I ever put anything in the back - all went in the front boot.

Nice for you :-), why do you spend a lot of time in the Porsche forum when you own a better car now ? (your words) Are you not fitting in with the SELOC group ?
I do hope you have booked in on the LOT day at your local track later in the month :-) you can show me how much better it is..

Or are you missing us all and the Pork. ;-)

It's an R modding /buyers thread :-)

I was not banned, BTW ;-) I choose to leave again.

You find some talk a lot of bks some use their cara on track and you tend to find like minded owners there.
I hope you get to try your car on track and LOT are great people to do a track day with. (see you in 2 weeks ? )

Yep, totally unnecessary and reeks of superiority.
