Hey everyone
I have a 56/2007 997.1 with Bose sound system, and I want to fit the SPH-DA120 while retaining as much functionality as possible - existing amp, steering controls, GPS aerial, etc.
By my reckoning I have about £550 of kit to install to get the SPH-DA120 to work (rough amounts below from one website I've been to):
£310 - Pioneer SPH-DA120
£195 - CTSPO005.2 steering wheel connector - this allows the Bose system to work as well? Bit confused by that part...
£5 - patch lead for steering wheel connector
£30 - CT23PO03 Fascia
£4 - CT27AA17 Fakra to DIN Aerial adaptor
Including installation, one place has given me a reasonable quote of just under £700 (this is London!), while another has quoted £1200.
Does anyone have any idea what the higher quote might be about other than pure rip-off?

I agree with Emeye, the £700 sounds about right. The £1,200 will just be an unscrupulous supplier assuming that people don't know what is involved in the fitment. I did it myself and I have very little aptitude for that type of thing!
The only thing missing from your parts list is an adaptor if you want to use the original Porsche GPS antenna, as the OEM connector doesn't fit straight in to the back of the Pioneer. I haven't fitted that part on mine yet, but to be honest I have found it fine just using the iPhone GPS so far.
When I fitted mine earlier in the year, they were having problems with the CTSPO005.2, and I bought the CTSPO003.2 as I didn't have steering wheel controls to worry about anyway. The box that controls the Bose is the same on both models, but the '5' is the one you will need to 911 steering controls. Do check that they resolved this before buying. It should be supplied with the appropriate patch lead.
A couple of points to note on the installation (I am sure the installer will be aware, but just in case!)

I would suggest fitting the Pioneer GPS sensor is worth it, or linking to the Porsche GPS if it is a modern chipset, especially if you have a hard-top! The pioneer has a wire for a powered antenna - you may need to manually connect it up outside the adaptor - not sure how easy this is on a Porsche though.

I'll add a quick recommendation for Dynamic Sounds in Wandsworth. I bought the kit from them but installed it myself. Their knowledge of the car was first rate, though, and they really helped me out with advice on the tricky parts.I was considering a similar setup to the one you have gone with.

I have just installed a Pioneer AVIC-F77 DAB in my 997 as my PCM screen stopped working. I did the install myself, although I don't have BOSE, just the sound package plus, which does simplify the installation. I used instructions from the web (there is a thread on Boxa.net that was very useful). I can't believe how bad the standard PCM unit is when compared to this (or any other aftermarket unit), and the sound quality is much improved. You wont regret the upgrade, and I wish I had done it sooner!

Thanks for the advice. I had the Pioneer SPH-DA120 installed by Dynamic Sounds last week. Very professional and good installation. I would happily recommend them. Overall I am very happy with the unit. I have included some comments on the system below...
Installation
- I have the USB1 port and the AUX installed in the cubby under the Dash
- USB2 and HDMI installed as an outlet in the passenger footwell
Pioneer Headunit
- Coming from PCM2... it a big improvement
- Lots of options for music i.e. 2 USB Ports and Bluetooth. I have an old iPod in the glovebox connected to USB2
- Bluetooth Microphone is clear. I had it installed near the Dome light
- Easy to switch from CarPlay to normal Headunit operation and you can use both e.g Music from USB2/Radio while using Apple Maps
CarPlay
- It works well but can be temperamental at times. I think the key is to be patient. Wait for the Pioneer system to startup fully and then connect the iPhone. Don't do anything directly on the phone until the connection is complete
- Its also important to use an authentic lightning cable. I tried a cheap alternate cable and it was very problematic
- Spotify works for me. There has been a few issues however I found that just closing the app on the Phone and restarting usually sorts it out. Its the same for other 3rd Party Apps e.g. TuneRadio and Stretcher
- Apple Maps - Not as good as Google Maps but perfectly usable

One thing only just realised, as I took the lightning cable out to charge my iphone and forgot to put it back, is that if the iPhone is not connected via the cable, you can set up a fully functioning bluetooth connection with the headunit for making calls and streaming music etc just like a non-carplay head unit.

Can I ask if any of you have steering wheel controls and if so how that worked out? I need to buy the relevant adaptor anyway because I have the Bose sound system, it's just that it's been pointed out that there were some issues with the adaptor working correctly so it would be good to know if it's working as expected.

I have a steering wheel adaptor - but mine is in an E92 BMW - the challenge is to get the exact version for your car - on mine there were two versions and I had to choose between my rear parking sensors working or the call button - in the end losing the call button wasn't the end of the world.Can I ask if any of you have steering wheel controls and if so how that worked out?
