Hypothetically, would any of those people with a guaranteed slot for a GT4 swap it for a guaranteed slot for a 981 Spyder?

I had deposits for both in a ton of dealerships. When I got my GT4 allocation, I pulled all my other deposits, including the Spyder ones.

I certainly would not and would think it unlikely that others would. No harm in asking though.

Most Spyder slots seem to be failed GT4 orders so I doubt it.

Thanks - to be clear, I wouldn't swap the other way (from Spyder to GT4 as I don't like coupes.. Just seeing what the general opinion was...

Is that correct. They are very different cars, are they not?
Spyders most critically do not have the GT4 suspension/subframes (which are GT3/911 Cup up front, GT3-derived out back), nor GT3 brakes (Spyders have Carrera S brakes). Spyders are simply an evolution of the "Sport Chassis"/X73 Sport Suspension available as an option on all Boxsters and Caymans. Aero is different as well, so it should produce less downforce at speed. Also different wheels and normal tires on the Spyder, instead of Pilot Sport Cup 2s.

I'd thought hard about changing, being a soft top person. I've decided to stick with the gt4- it having the more bespoke engineering. Here's hoping it can cope with British B roads, that's my biggest concern.
Though I do wonder how the boxster copes from a rigidity point of view with x73 on our back roads.

If the Spyder is the sum total of a Boxster GTS + 45 HP - a little bit of weight, then I'd expect it to be a brilliant road car. The last Spyder wasn't a full on Motorsports developed car either, but it was a damn good car to drive. I loved mine. I quite frankly couldn't care about the lack of downforce, or adjusting the suspension and doubt it'll make any difference on a good A or B road. Each to their own, but my opinion is that those who've secured a GT4 or a Spyder are very lucky folk indeed.

Also..isn't the Spyder being built in smaller numbers, and therefore likely to be much rarer than the GT4?

Very true. Only 1 to 2 Spyders per UK OPC and a lot rarer than the GT4. A niche car for sure.

Whilst being nowhere close to the brilliance of the GT3, the GT4 will clearly be the better track car compared to the Spyder, but in the real world on UK driving roads there is likely to be little in it.....driving

not really no, the GT4 has all the bits off your car bar the lazy shift.

same sus set up, same amount of down force and a lap time faster if it had pdk-s even though it is 65bhp down :-)

scratchchin

All the bits off the GT3? Hardly. GT4 has the GT3 brakes and FRONT suspension. That's all. No more. Boggo 3.8 Carrera engine like the Spyder.

As you know the Spyder has the Carrera brakes, no cost sports suspension, steering same as GT4, no cost buckets etc etc. Hardly a GTS.
