Anyone know this Cayman R?
Discussion
I dont think thats how the free market economy works. If they originally ordered both options and everyone buys a PDK (for more money) how are they twisting anyones hand up their back? Having a manual is the right thing to say on PH but for me having my leg and arm wiggling about unnecessarily in a daily seems a bit pointless. If you want a true pure drivers care you'd be coming to see me to buy a Lotus not driving a 1400 kilo German barge
I'm fortunate enough to live in a temperate climate with absolutely no salt on the roads (the Leicester importer of my 1993 Turbo 3.6 said the mechanic was astounded that there was not a single speck of corrosion on the 21 year old car). That combined with a 9km commute makes it theoretically possible to use a manual CR as my only car, however I chose to go PDK.
The PDK CR is faster than a manual in my hands and there's no chance of money shifts on the track. When I feel the need, I strap on my spare pair of unfeasibly large gonads and take my 964 C4 for a spirited B-road drive, because the film 'Driver X' told me it is the character choice over the CR.
Right got that off my chest. Is there any chance we can move past the figurative pissing contest where owners spruik their cars as the only one to own, yet are looking to sell them? I'd like to hear more about ownership experiences. I hope that doesn't take too many years to eventuate. The 964 owner boards are well past the 'my car is better than yours' stage in model appreciation.

Oh almost forgot I've got one sorted thanks to a nice gent that got in touch through PH. Controversial but its not an R but a rather special S PDK. Got a week to wait to pick up ill update when she lands
Will still be keeping an eye open for an R so if anyone is looking at selling one do still drop me a line.

you sound suspiciously like a car dealer FP?
to the two guys who mentioned selling, what colours are your cars? Could be interested depending on spec and colour.
I'm a Lotus specialist. This search was purely personal although its unearthed a couple of cars I would take in. to the two guys who mentioned selling, what colours are your cars? Could be interested depending on spec and colour.
I can point you the way of a white manual with 27k on the clock, right options £41k
Other one was sold before I could get to it. I bet the chap with the green one on autotrader will relist that on the day I pick mine up! I dont have any Porsche cars myself to sell. There was no way I would be paying 45k for one but my market radar super sense was pinging that 45k was just too much. low 40s for a top one with very low miles sure. I've paid more for my one than any specialist dealer would have done but not many private punters have 30-40k to do a deal on a car either.
Cant wait to pick up anyway
Interesting FP, so you rate the Cayman over some of the Lotus models? Evora and suchlike? I really should get myself into some of the Lotus models as my only experience of them was a pax ride on track in an Elise and that was a nippy little rocket.
Thanks for the offer on info on the white one. Tempting, though my hearts set on a red one even if a long wait. May still end up in a white one. Just off on a big euro tour in my air cooled 911 so will have to delay my search and see if I really want to replace the classic Porsche for a modern one! Not sure I could face leaving one or other outside the garage so its probably one has to replace the other unless I want to spend an extra 9k on a garage extension. Tough call!

thanks for the heads up Bubbles, but 47k for a pdk? me-think thou ask too much! Bl**dy OPC's have been steadily ramping up the prices for these over last few weeks I noticed. Iniitally most offered at 44k, then 45, now 47?! P*ss take springs to mind, its a 4yr old car now and superceded by another generation of Cayman as well as the impending GT4.
Interesting that PDK is frowned upon this was my top priority when I was looking. If you want the ultimate driving thrill you wont be driving a Porsche anyway you'll be in a Lotus!
MJ911 if you are having a shop round go try an Evora. Its a vastly superior thing to drive. Residuals are pretty good now as well. The only things to bear in mind on used ones are clutches are a joke. £3000 engine out job and shelf life of 40k so bear that in mind. I've not had one in to sell yet I see them as a tad risky as I self warranty my cars and do not need a 3k bill landing on my desk. We are plently busy enough with the Elise/Exige/VX220 stuff which is all much cheaper to buy in too.
Why am I not buying an Evora? Busman's holiday I guess. The Porsche is better put together...erm thats about all I can think of. I just wanted one I guess thats reason enough! Prefer the look of the Cayman even though the Evora is a pretty handsome thing. I think the Cayman might be slightly smaller overall as well and I dont like big cars.

It's not frowned upon, just Demon telling everyone it's "dead" in a Spyder/CR.There are more PDK's from new than manuals.
What usually happens with cars is that what unpopular when bought new, means lower numbers, and then becomes desireable because of the rarity.
There weren't many red CR's ordered new as buyers preferred other colours. This means that the market is saturated with white, grey, black and peridot cars. Red cars are now sought after ( I wanted one too!) as they are few and far between.
A few years ago, everyone wanted PDK and manual was deemed old tech. Now it's fashionable to say that manual is more "purist" and a "true drivers car" blah blah blah.
I literally had no preference. Other specs of the car were more important to me personally.
I've not regretted buying a PDK for a single second, buy what you prefer!!
But beware, there are many modifications on the car that threw me off it, firstly, the roof is painted (not wrapped) in gloss black, it originally had a huge chinesse made rear spoiler, now with the original placed back, came with original black Spyder alloy wheels, but had carbon dipped Turbo ones put on, had many parts including the spliters/mirrors/front light surrounds/rear spoiler carbon dipped, a bar was welded inside the car for the seat belts, the whole suspension was updated that made an unusal noise when going over bumps, PASM fault message appearing and finally, the 5800 miles spent were on the tracks here and Nurburgring.
