But how much luggage can you get in a lotus? And what's it like on a 400 mile round trip?
Sorry you can't beat a Porsche you can keep your Lotus!
If I wanted a sub £50k car I would buy a 987.2CS engine then tweaked to circa 350hp and some nice passive suspension and 18" wheels etc

this new one has TTX ohlins as standard ;-) some thing GT should be having imo.

The Cayman gt4 should have a lot of things but at £65k and the gt3 at £110k list what does one expect !
I hope the next Gt4 addresses 2 key areas though if it is the current engine then air/ecu restrictions removed (I am sure this is what gives poor fuel) tuned to about 420hp would be nice and a 10% lower gearing! Are you listening Porsche, this will also keep the price sub £75k

not daily but I use mine, it's fine, the cup are noisy on the road but you could go PS4S as a daily, the engine wine is quite a lot mind you.

Bar that it's fine bar the over hang on ramps, just avoid multi story car parks.

It's not a Merc boat ride so it depends what you are after. people say the Cayman R is to hardcore lol I use mine daily no issue.
MPG is killer on the GT4 though if you drive it.

Don't use as a daily but is often used for 300mile round trips, cabin is a nice place to be but the tyres can be noisy on some surfaces , I find the suspension/ride fine the only negative is the clutch can be tiresome in heavy traffic and other t055ers on the road who want to race you!

Interesting comments, thanks gents.

Some of the minor negatives you mention can be levied towards my CGTS too, but I think that's par for the course.

Is the MPG really that bad? I'm not 100% sure what I am getting. All I know is that it costs me about £69 to fill up from 'light on' to full and for that I get c.300 miles before the light comes back on. Sometimes over, sometimes under, but on average 300mls.

I am eyeing a GT4 at some point (981 if I don't get a 718 allocation) and I would essentially be using it as a daily - hence the mundane questions before I start making too many plans!

On a long run with a mix of 30/40 miles town work £70 (shells finest)gives me about 350 miles of range.
Or 30 mpg motorway work and 20-25 mpg town and A road. So far over 2500 miles with similar driving to my old 987 spyder mpg is probably 5% on average down or about 1/2 mpg

To add on a motorway run of 140 miles my 987 spyder would average about 31/32 mpg saw 33 mpg one time but that was the best I ever got whereas the best on the same journey was 31 mpg in the GT4

So better than I am getting from Shell's finest in my CGTS! Or at the very least pretty much the same. I can live with that!

In fairness MPG only bothers me if the tank is not big enough. Range between fills is more important to me than MPG. A long time back I had a couple of RX8s and I was getting c.17mpg from them. The thing which pissed me off was the fact that I was getting 225miles pr tank. I felt like I was never away from the pump. I always said that if I could put in £1,000 at a time that would be great. I hate filling cars up - even our Q5 which does best part of 500miles between fill ups.

Not used as a daily, but entirely possible. It's a remarkably nice road car IMO.

I've had previous GTs and RSs, and the GT4 is definitely the most practical and usable, yet still always feels very special.

I have other Porsches, including a Cayman 981 S (PDK) for day-to-day, but I could easily live with just the GT4. The lwt buckets are a bit more effort, getting in and out, but that's about it. I have two sets of wheels and run road tyres most of the time, which are slightly quieter.

Hi Geneve do you find the road tyres give you slightly better mpg although 1 or 2 mpg is hardly noticeable , as I have often wondered with cup2s being so sticky would cause more friction thus increasing mpg over say a PS2/4

The Cups are rated F for rolling resistance PS4s C so there should be a noticeable difference - that corresponds to an increase in rolling resistance of perhaps 10%, so there should be at least 1mpg difference at least, but it obviously will be depend on use.

I did, and its perfectly competent and useable daily - absolutely no issues in that regard. Drove to work an back in traffic and loaded it up at the supermarket at the weekend with shopping - took it all in its stride. thumbup

In the end though my problem with the GT4 was that it was just too quiet and un-inspiring to drive around town in traffic. Sure it was a hoot and noisy on the twisties but used daily it under delivered for me and left me longing to go back to another V12V, so I snapped up one a order for one of the last V12VS dogleg and I have never looked back. Different price point so not really a fair comparison, but the point of dropping to the GT4 was that I was trying to get along in a cheaper car and hoped the new manual GT4 would tick all the boxes.

No complaints though overall, as it was a good move financially and the GT4 really is a great car for what it is - you certainly shouldn't be worried that its too hardcore for a daily - far from it! smile

Which is why everybody who owns one should drive it --- plenty of fun to offset a little depreciation.

With apologies, this wasn't targeted ... I am just so pleased with mine, and making a cheap point ...

I did 34k in my previous car --- a CR --- and am saving the GT4 for the more fun things --- now 11,000 miles.

I bought an Audi RS3 Sportback as a more practical comfortable day to day motorway muncher, and find it less comfortable for really long distances than the LWT's of the GT4, go figure. Quiet yes, but bum numbing.

Couldn't say, but possibly. I get +/- 25 mpg in road use.

I've done about 330,000 mls in Porsches, and every one of them got better with mileage - engine, gearbox, chassis, sound, fuel consumption.... they've all improved with use.
