Just seen a new youtube video, "why my friend sold his GT4" - link below.

As far as I can tell, the answer is: "because he bought on Finance and could not afford it"

uhm. doh.

That guy's just annoyed because he didn't get one, he clearly has a bad taste in his mouth. I don't think anyone buys a newly realeased 'used' GT car thinking that they're going to continue to appreciate?! The profit is in the new car not the used one. I agree that the OPC shouldn't be scaring him out of his purchase though.

This sort of thing has been going on for years with all sorts of products, not just cars, its just with social media and youtube, people now have a way of expressing their frustration at not getting an allocation. I dont see 18 cars on the used locator as being that many considering there were 550 cars brought to he UK? There are a similar amount of used BMW M2's on the used market at inflated prices and no one seems to be complaining about that?

Getting quite bored of these sob stories just to gain viewers and attention. Its simple you bought a car...you sold a car...the end. Get over it.

I brought the sapphire blue car from Tewkesbury for £91,981. I placed my deposit on 28th of May and collect this Saturday. As I'm sure you can all imagine, I'm SO excited! I'm trading in my '16 plate Cayman GTS against it. Very sad to see the GTS go, as it's been a brilliant 10.5k but the GT4 felt so much of a step up on the short test drive I just had to have it and take the plunge.

The reason for the long wait between placing my deposit and collecting it was because I got married on the 3rd June and our 2 week honeymoon was in the GTS driving the Furka and Grimsel passes in Switzerland along with Lake Como, Milan and Nice. An amazing 2,600 mile trip and a great way to say goodbye to the GTS.

Thank you all for spending the time to write on this topic, this thread has been a great reference tool for me in searching out my ideal spec/car.

I'll post up some pics after I have collected it

+1.

Usual tediously regurgitated verbal garbage.

Actually dozed off 2 minutes in.

I've just grilled him in the comment section; what a load of bks he's chatting. Possibly no one else knows the movements of these cars within the OPC network more than me biggrin

If he had been the first owner then he could have enjoyed the car and made money, but buying at a premium and paying the finance fees is nuts unless you are happy to drive it and enjoy it for a few years.

Totally agree he falls under the Knob category along with the You Tube presenter laugh

Well done - fantastic job! clap I saw the GT4 at Tewkesbury the other week, it looked perfect.

Even buying at a premium he would only lose proportionally what GT cars have lost in the past ie 10% pa or maybe a lot less if this mad bubble continues so he could have still driven it and enjoyed and not lost a lot of cash, lucky he did not buy a new 911 turbo or something similar. Cars generally lose money my first new Porsche lost 70% of its value in 5 years!

Haha.... yes Matt, it's me!

After a passenger ride in your gorgeous GT3 at Anglesey I knew I needed a much more track focussed weapon so it's all your fault! laugh

Can't wait to get behind the wheel on Saturday and get our next track outing booked in

Nothing massively positive to say this week, quite a few have reduced their prices by a couple of grand, most now falling within the high 80's range. Couple of new additions from Nottingham and Guildford. Be interesting to see how well the Notts car sells with over 12,000 miles on the clock (well done to whoever owned that car smile).

I'm having to debate what to do with my car; totally wasted on me, one personal problem after another meaning no time to get out in it, but I absolutely love it so much. What should I do, sell it and let someone else enjoy, or tuck away in the hope things improve. I'm at risk of having a very low mile ornament and no idea if it will hold value over a long term!

Firstly, a big thanks to everyone contributing to the GT4 discussion here, and MD_ian for his heroic effort cataloguing the market.

My two cents on your question:

With prices set by supply and demand, what do you feel is likely to happen to each of these levers? With new GT cars being released it seems natural that GT4 supply will increase as people trade into the newer cars and that demand will fall as there is a newer toy available. GT4 prices are also clearly softening, in which a vicious circle sees demand from "investors" drop away.

If GT4 prices are now managing to fall despite the current Porsche mania, I wouldn't be holding out any hope that this trend will reverse soon.

If you were using and enjoying it, these concerns would be less important.

Is there a fundamental reason why the depreciation pattern of the GT4 should be any different from any other Porsche GT car? If not, then these are not a sensible place to put your money in the medium term if you are deriving little value from ownership, in my opinion.

In the longer term, who knows? Try not to let the current market environment for all things Porsche cloud your rationality.

Only you can decide how much the money side of things matters to you, but if you love it and can afford it then keep it. When personal problems get out of the way, then you can get out and enjoy it. You may kick yourself if you have got rid of it.

There are plenty of cars out there for people to buy, so you aren't doing anybody out of the opportunity to own and use a GT4.

Here's a thought experiement to try. If in two years' time the car was worth £20k less but you had the time to use it, would you still keep it?

Hope you get to have some fun soon.

Is there a fundamental reason why the depreciation pattern of the GT4 should be any different from any other Porsche GT car? If not, then these are not a sensible place to put your money in the medium term if you are deriving little value from ownership, in my opinion.
Also worth noting it's not a 911 or hypercar, it's a Cayster which is the bottom end of the Porsche sportscar line. I think this will have an effect on depreciation in the future.

With a new GT4 likely to come along in the next 12 to 18 months, if you're not using it I'd personally cash out now.

This weekend you really need to drive your favourite road in the sweetest handling car Porsche have made in a while.

Many thanks for the market updates.

Congratulations to anyone who has a GT4.

£ for £ one of the best 'all round' Porsche sports cars you can buy IMO.
