Just a quick one, was cruise control fitted as standard on the GT4 or was it a cost option?

Cheers

I think it looks a pretty awesome mean looking machine especially in that colour but costing the same money as the new GT3 is slightly ambitious imo.

I don't use it daily but average about 22mpg combined. I drive mine as intended hence I've never seen anything on the trip computer above 23mpg but then my car doesn't see any motorways!

I was hoping that you would all say it was a ballache and then I could relax and forget about planning my next upgrade already...but no. smile
I went from my PDK equipped CGTS to a GT4 about a month ago and use both as a daily although I will probably get a £1k 'shed' to see me through the worst of winter.

I had the CGTS from new for 16 months and 10.5k including two long European road trips. That car was amazing, never skipped a beat and was equally comfortable round town as it was ragging round the furka pass or Anglesey race track. I averaged around 27mpg so from the 64 litre fuel tank I was generally getting around 350-400 miles out of it and it was always filled with Shell's finest.

The GT4 is absolutely fine being used daily, with most of my commute being in traffic and through town. It's is loud, no doubt, especially on the motorway where the sound is always with you, even with the exhaust button off. It's nowhere near as tuneful as the GTS was, but it sounds deeper and more purposeful for want of a better word. My GT4 is clubsport spec so getting in and out of the buckets can be a ball ache in my suit, but other than that I have no reservations about using the car every day. I am averaging only 18mpg in the though at the moment but it's only done 2.5k so I guess it will improve a bit as it loosens up. I've just taken the car from Cheltenham to Weston-Super-Mare as it's being detailed today and on that M5 motorway run, I averaged 27mpg at a steady 80-95mph.

So a decent difference for you in MPG terms - and good for you for using it!

One of the things I cannot help thinking every time I see a super-low mileage sports or supercar, is that the owner must surely never experience the car at its best...or worse still, must just ignore any running in procedure and go for it out the showroom...which surely is not too bright? Cars which are sitting in showrooms with 1-2k miles on either have to have never really been experienced properly or have been a bit abused by NOT bing run in at all?

That being said, I am not sure how much 'running in' modern cars actually need. I know the current AMG Mercs all have a warranty-invalidating run in procedure that owners are supposed to stick to, but not really heard of much else.

Yep, that car was spotted a couple of months ago and commented on at the time.

Personal opinion, it seems a little uneconomical to build another GT4 based upon the 981 platform. If they are going to do it, then to retain in keeping with the current design, it must surely be built on the 718. Whether that means turbo or na to fit, I don't know, but if these 981's being spotted (albeit old news) are test mules for the next GT4, it would point towards a GT4 RS based upon the 981, not another stock GT4.

If it was a simple case of keeping in-line with 911 roll-out, then a 718 GT4 would have to be their approach; it seems illogical that for example you'd be building 991's with a 997 GT3 because 'that platform fits', but I appreciate we are in new territory here, and I'm sure they will sell regardless which might be why anything is possible.

From the pics it was suggested they were testing a new engine and updated suspension/settings. The 718 is just a (facelifted) 981 front shell with a 4-pot rear shell so to test a new flat six it makes perfect sense to use an old 981 test mule. The core shell will be the same as the 718 GT4 will be, and the rear shell will be a flat six version.

Underneath the bodywork changes the 718 GT4 will be the same shell as the 981 GT4, so I wouldn't get too hung up on what the test mules look like. The key part to me was the new engine, given the dodgy looking exhaust pipes. That car in the pics may well be the rumoured 450bhp version with the GT3's 4.0 litre which is unlikely to make production. The suspension setup will be the transferable knowledge from that mule.

So until you see a test model that looks like a disguised 718 / almost production ready don't get your hopes up! As for engine there are 3 options on the table 1) tuned version of old engine 2) de tuned gt3 lump 3) 400+hp f4 turbo
Option 3 is the most probable, option 2 is the one we all want and option 1 just can't see it happening
Just have to wait and see what happens

Option 3 is a no-go, it's been confirmed as NA several times. Cost target point, and relative performance compared to 911s, will dictate if we get option 1 or option 2.

As the same engine will be in the next Spyder, I think it's almost certain it'll be option 1. The old 911.1 GTS 3.8 with Powerkit.

For what its worth i've recently been told a RS version will be coming soon by a couple of people who are quite high up in the supply chain for Porsche!
