Can someone with experience of both the Spyder and the GT4 describe the difference in feel that the front axel makes on the GT4? How much "better" is it?

Really depends what you plan to use it for - maybe you'll find a difference on the track, however I think on the road no difference what so ever - I own a Spyder and have had a fair bit of seat time in a GT4 - some people own both so can say better than me. I have to say I find the Spyder an extremely competent package - great fun car .

Thinking about it , Andrew D and Sandy59 had both - maybe PM them.

Cheers smile

Ah I see - yes I should have remembered - I guess the bottom line is they're all nice - I have occasionally had the same thought but I just can't part with the Spyder - it's a keeper smile

The 89k yellow car is still for sale at opc Leicester.

As the market is new to me do you think there's any movement in price on that car or is it priced reasonably all things considered....

Edited by Ej74 on Friday 28th July 17:36
The seller said they paid that for it so I cannot see it dropping anymore.

Not a lot oem for oem, but do a geo number on the GT4 and it's night and day as you cannot really change anything on the Spyder.

My GT4 pulls 1.5g on the road it feels nothing like a oem GT4 but to get a Spyer that way would cost £6k to handle close to it.

Not to badmouth GT4 owners but any one with a stock geo is not that into cars imo as stock it's not great, seems no point owning a GT4 with adjustable sus if you just potter about stock.

So it depends what you are after. You don't see 996 GT3 running stock set up these days. They end up in drivers hands.

I had a Spanish acquaintance who used the word nob quite liberally ... it was definitely nob rather than knob.

He was trying to say ... snob. Not the nicest person in the world.

Eventually somebody relieved him of his front teeth ...

The virtual world is a much safer place ...

Ok thanks. Sounds like the front axel difference is big then.

Yes Rich is correct, it really depends on what you intend using it for.

I have both. And two great cars. But chalk and cheese different. Clearly the GT4 is more focused as expected. But for road use there is actually little in it. Both rapid road cars but little between them. GT4 has the edge though, but only when you are 'on it'...but those times are rare from a legal perspective...hehe And that is probably more down to the Pirelli non cup tyred Spyder v the Cup tyred GT4 as opposed to the c10bhp/GT3 front suspension advantages of the GT4.

Other advantages of the Spyder are its rarer, actually receives more 'good' attention, and in some ways is actually more usable with better front clearance. Great touring car. Sounds better too. Anfd thats with the roof up hehe

Perhaps the best feature of the Spyder is that...being a non GT car, it doesn't have to try. And thats perhaps where the GT4 loses out. The non GT engine is its biggest problem imo.

The Spyder is almost a mini 488 Spyder.

Both cars great packages, but possibly the Spyder is the keeper.

AndrewD sold his Spyder and kept the GT4, it all boils down to want you want from it, rareness and being called a GT car have no relevance to me, I only care how it drives and the GT4 drives and feels better, esp the steering and the brakes and imo the sound is better on the GT4 , an overall more honest sound over the fake modern sound the GTS and Spyder have.

I like the Spyder but if you are after a drivers car it's not the Spyder without a high spend on adjustable Sus, if you keep the GT4 stock then I would say those sorts of people would like the Spyder better. If you come from a GT background you are going to take the GT4 every time and set it up better.

I have never worked out why people are happy to put the OPC first, I try and buy private so I can chat with the current owner and get a feel for how the car was used and see the car as it is.

many a track slag ends up at the OPC abused, and you think you are buying a new car because they fitted new tyres and over polished it ! You are happy to pay an extra £10k for that service !
Do you reckon the DP at Leicester would like to hear this considering you're in his pocket (so to speak) in order to get a GT3.
Considering you don't contribute much to the main Porsche fund via buying new or from an OPC you must surely accept that you need to be a bit more careful when posting negative comments about OPC's!
Well, to be fair to demon, for all that I seldom agree with much that he posts, at least he's not simply parroting the 'I love my OPC who are so awesome' line just to get into the dealer principal's good books in order to get a car despite being clearly a 'known' online persona and still is unafraid to express an opinion that may put the OPC process in a negative light.

I just drive my cars and my OPC knows I drive my cars, and as I drive my cars my cars go back to my OPC for service and other work, not 3rd parties.

OPC don't want flippers or garage queens car they never see again.

I am pro my OPC, they even do my Geo work etc ;-)

I just don't play games or talk bullst on here, I say it how it is which upsets some and others think it's refreshing.

YOU get people calling me "flipper" even people phoning my OPC saying I have sold cars !!

Never flipped a car in my life, lol just a lot of nasty ******* about, forums are nasty places but I have a lot of friends on here.
The post these days in other threads are getting more nasty nasty to other people I have noticed.

So by your logic you would never drive your 987 Spyder. Not being a GT Porsche.

And by your logic you would also be trading your Spyder and not the GT4 for your potential GT3 allocation!

Tyre advice needed. I am new to GT4 ownership (400 miles and counting) and I'm told that Cup tyres should not be used through the winter. The recommended tyre seems to be Michelin Pilot Alpin. This car will be used through the winter, so should I change to Alpin and just keep the Cup tyres for spring / summer? Any views on other makes of tyre?

I chose the Michelin PA4s last winter for a skiing trip to Norway in a 991 GTS. The grip on water / snow / ice was very impressive considering the widths. I used them until circa March time and it's only when the temperature got above circa 12-15 degrees that they become inferior to the summer tyres (P Zeros I believe).

If you'll be using your GT4 throughout the winter and don't want to have to drive it softly, run winters.

Incidentally I still have them in the garage and need to get rid of them this winter (no longer have the car) but don't think they'd fit GT4 alloys.
