CSL more hardcore imo.

GT4 like the 991 Gt3 are much more usable on a daily basis.
Don't agree with that one bit, I ran my CSL as a daily, I don't with my GT4.what's hardcore about a CSL over a GT4 ?
it's a 3 series automatic with more ride height and 4 seats, vs a manual with heavy clutch, low ride heights and 2 seats.
Absolutely. Quieter too.

I love the CSL but the box always put me off getting one.

it's an interesting unit, takes time to learn, you drive it like a manual and it feels like a manual. ie you lift on changes and you get that kick when it changes back in gear.

I love the M modes BMW do over the Porsche modes, you can tailor the car and the M button you can program to do every thing in one go to your settings.
I also ran the v8 DCT but it lasted 2 months, was a bit dull, was just a drift car :-) they match a GT4 straight line though, and on track a sorted M3 v8 will be giving the GT4 a hard time.

I could not shake the pesky thing lol

As always driving any automatic in auto mode is dire :-)

You forgot to add in your opinion.

Can't remember finding the PDK S dire last time I was stuck in heavy traffic on the M6.

I have no issues in a manual in traffic, it's called looking ahead or paying for the toll ;-p

the 2 biggest pro PDK owner quotes on here

"It's great in Traffic"
"My misses can drive it"

:-)

I see you went for option 1 :-p and you must have seen my "wrong car for the job" posts by now ;-)

Those who use their cars on a daily basis in the real will understand.

Btw most of the M6 has no toll road but is heavily congested!

Any bids yet on your GT4 for sale?

still waiting for that phone call (I have had a "you can have one" phone call already, but until an order is placed one never knows) , my GT4 will be part ex for the GT3 or tuned to 450bhp and kept.
Cannot be long for dealer allocations now for batch 2.

I am now tempted in the red if I get one, down to red or white anyway, just not specing it till a firm order.

I beg to differ but I've always felt the buzzy intake of the CSL plus the minimalist interior of the CSL made it a more hardcore package. But it is prolly to do with the advancement of PASM and adaptive dampers that has the most to do with whether they are more hardcore or not.

The clutch on the Gt4 isn'#t heavy. wait til you try the one on 997 gt3 or RS

I think hardcore actually means 996 Gt3 which is more of a parallel example when compared to the CSL.

btw I love that silly SMG gearbox.

Hi HP - I think there isn't much in it clutch wise GT4 VS. 997.2 RS - they feel similar to me smile

Yep, the dry single clutch smg is truly archaic compared to modern stuff....but strangely somehow suits the cars character. No wonder BMW refer to it as clunktronic. Perhaps similar to the Vantage. And the Aventador which is the ultimate insane gearbox for a car at such an insane price.

Crazy to think that more than 4 launch starts with the smg BMW box would invalidate the transmission warranty.

I was told by my OPC that Porsche license the PDK gearbox to BMW for use in the M4? Could explain a few things

Heavy clutch is a sign of wear --- I can't say that I have noticed much difference between the various RS and GT's that I've driven.

And PDK is fab on track smile

Afraid I have to agree with RSVP, from memory my 997 RS clutch was similar to my GT4, yes it is heavy but not unacceptably so.
Although not my daily I cover around 7k miles per year and don't have a problem with the clutch.

I tried a 997 RS recently and it was really heavy, much more so than my gt4. I understand that it's down to wear as other 997gt cars I've tried have been much lighter.
