I went gt4 to 991gts and back to GT4 because although the 991.1 GTS is a great car, it was just a great everyday car, not a weekend car. The GT4 is far louder and much more go-kart like but is much more of an occasion. The 911 feels a lot bigger and less naughty and less fun ultimately.
If it was everyday I'd have the GTS but if it's for weekends I'd go GT4 every time. if you haven't driven the GT4, I'd suggest doing that before making your decision.

I use the GTS every day for 25 mile round trip commute (country roads). I have an old 986 Boxster which I use in the summer for same purpose and tbh, it's more fun to drive. But in the winter and on long trips the GTS is peerless. But I miss the fun of the Boxster... Don't get me wrong, I love it but after a good 3 hour 150 miles drive up through Wales from south to north you're looking forward to a break. Perhaps I'm getting old (41!) but I'd not choose a GT4 as an every day car. I'd have the new 991 GTS for that or indeed my Cayenne S diesel I love my GT4 but with buckets and for weekends.
Try to get an extended test drive in one. It's the only way you'll find out.

I have driven my GT4 2500 miles in a week around Europe and it was spot on! Comfortable, not too boomy on the noise front and utterly superb when the roads got interesting. But even 600 motorway miles in one day was fine. However, I have the 18 way seats which, for me, make these trips doable in the GT4 as you recline and adjust to suit your preferred driving position and have a different seating position for relaxed motorway miles and a more aggressive position for spirited driving. I wouldn't dream of doing those sort of miles in either of the bucket seat options. jcosh said:

Yes you're right, I would no way use a GT4 with buckets every day. The 18 way seats make it a far more comfortable daily driver.Whats I like about the GT4 over the 991 GTS is that it feels so much smaller and checkable. Much more of a sports car at the end of the day.
I had a 6 hour round trip in my GT4 with bucket seats and it felt totally comfortable for me. I like sitting upright and the buckets help with that.
i could drive all day every day in mine and it would never get tiresome.
It's the getting in and out repeatedly that would be more of an issue, for me.

Having driven both I would say the 991 GTS has better soundproofing which reduces the tyre roar but also slightly mutes the exhaust note compared with the GT4. I think the soundproofing point is the same for any 981 vs any 991 I've experienced actually.
Also, with the GT4 the induction note is more prominent but I think that's mainly because of the position of the side air intakes relative to the driving position and also the closer location of the engine (to the occupants).

Saw my first GT4 at the weekend, Lovely agate grey version with 918 style seats and roll cage.
Registration looked like Paul B.
Was sooooooooooooooooo nice! Never realised how much more presence they have compared to a standard cayman. Wish I had the money!

Sorry for reposting these shots from the other thread, but
im into just over one month of ownership and I know that when Im looking at long range forecasts for great weather, and getting a bit depressed on wet weekends.. Im in love with this car..
Its definitely one of the best Ive owned for various reasons, and it wont suit everyone, but I would strongly recommend buying one if you can. Easily one of the best manual gearboxes, that is fun and so satisfying. Just enough power (another 20-30 hp would be nice, but mines only done 3k miles, so I guess its still loosening up and coming from a GTR it doesn't feel slow.) - fabulous confidence inspiring, direct pointy steering, and epic noise too.. this is surely one of the best porsches Ive ever driven or owned. Miss my GTR but by god what a car this is.
Decent experience with the Edinburgh dealer too.
