Curious, as far as I'm aware your GT4 was recently traded in with approx 5k miles on it. How did you manage '3 big euro hoons' plus the various track days etc you refer to and only clock up 5k miles?

I did a euro hoon last year and racked up 2400 miles in 6 days. Perhaps your idea of 'big euro hoon' and mine are different.

Well swerved!

Would it fair to say we ought to treat a fair chunk of what you spout on here with a fairly large bucket of salt?

yep, that would be best :-) I would hate people to think any of what I say is a "fact" as that upsets too many people.

My 1.2 Corsa I turn up in at all the events has done well not to be spotted. I think if I hang around a car a lot it looks like mine.

Anyone else get a hollow, tubular metal clunking sound when riding over a deepish pot hole?

Almost sounds like it’s coming from the roll cage but can’t be sure it’s not the suspension. I’ve booked it in for next week but having only had the car a few weeks was wondering if others have experienced it

Cheers

I think that's normal in the clubsport models. On mine it only happens once per ride, as if the clunk beds the cage into the suspension.

However, does yours have the "squeak"?

I experienced a clunk which was not the roll cage; a shock absorber had to be replaced.

Front suspension clumks and cage creaks normal on the GT4.

There are loads of noises in a GT car, clunks, rattles, squeaking breaks, it's what i love about them.
Its not a Rolls Royce Wraith at the end of the day.

Fair play if some people have had the odd shock replaced but I've had 2 GT4's and done 10k in them. One with club sport and one without.
Both have the 'clunk' when going through a pothole, both have squeaky breaks depending on the weather and both have the odd rattle here and there... bloody marvellous.

F, talking of squeaky brakes, how are you finding the ceramics on the GT3?

The gen 1 ( steels on mine) brakes are squeaky like the GT4 but Porsche said the gen2 were much quieter.

When I had the suspension geometry checked by Chris Franklin, he explained all the noises. Alas I've forgotten which were which. I think the one you describe is the springs settling on the platforms, which would be consistent with why it doesn't happen often.

Anyway, seems they all do it so nothing to worry about.

Hope you are enjoying the car.

Thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated.

For peace of mind it's booked in to get everything checked over.

When I first got the car in early December the brakes were very squeak which I actually loved as it made me think it was more of a race car. Turns out they just needed a bit of use and they rarely squeak at all now.

Will update if I find anything interesting out.

Thanks again

Hi AV, happy new year. Really enjoying the ceramics, they have stupid stopping power but the feeling is still very much there. It's hard to describe it, they do feel different to steels. I suppose in your mind you know it's a different material and the feel through the pedal is more silky for want of a better word, less abrasive. Modulating them is fine although jumping from the GT4 with steels to the GT3 with ceramics does have you over braking a bit for the first few miles but you soon acclimatise. Another thing, its amazing how small the GT4 feels after you get out of the GT3. I've really started to throw the GT4 about more now, its an amazing little car for the money. Love it love it.

You have to press the pedal harder with steel brakes which is why some people prefer them for H&T but its still perfectly ok with the PCCB's
they have the odd squeak too but not much and certainly not as much as the steels can squeak.

Interesting, thanks for your observations F.

And a Happy New Year to you too!

Porsche claimed the gen 2 steel and ceramic GT3 brakes were different to the gen 1 in that the pad ran totally free from the rotor thus slightly reducing possible drag. Only thing I thought was it was possibly easier to get a stone lodged between the pad and disc which, as you know could well be terminal with ceramics!

Must admit I have had a few stones lodged on the steels in the GT4 and Spyder too.

Hopefully this won't happen with the GT3!

Agree on the GT4 it does feel smaller than a 911 despite being exactly the same width mirror to mirror at 1978mm.

Yes - you were all right - fantastic first impressions - surprised how loud it is straight out of the box as I normally go with an aftermarket exhaust to get the right sound

Hopefully things continue in this vein
