the engine In the GT4 and Spyder does have mpg issues lol I planned to daily mine but it's not possible due to that, 180 miles on a full tank is not fun twice a week.
Not using sport hence no third rad makes a big difference I find.Edited by Porsche911R on Wednesday 21st March 13:11

The sport button on the Gt4 gives the autoblip but also opens the third radiator this in turn drops the temp to about 85c giving worse fuel economy(hotter engines help fuel and emissions that's why you can see temps at 110c). I found switching sport on in heavy traffic helped keep temps down also I used to switch on a few miles from home to help cool engine before putting in garage!
My overall economy over 3k miles was marginally less than my 987spyder >1mpg

Sport makes no odds to mpg bar warming up times and you need sport on in the Spyder, no auto blip in that mode.
So soon as it's warm you can put sport on.
I am finding the same mpg in either car.
The hotter engine temps are for cleaning the engine as direct injection clogs up with gunk hence they run the oil hotter non sport
normally a hotter engine gives less mpg and also hotter oil breaks down more so less effective hence the 3rd rad cools the oil to 90's
hot oil is just to stop gunk build up, very hot oil and engine temps are bad !

That’s odd— my mpg is defo way less in my GT4, relative to my 987 Spyder.... Maybe I’m hooning it everywhere in 2nd gear, due to the longer gearing in the GT4....!!!
I agree I get 5mpg more in my R and 987 Spyder over my GT4 and 981 Spyderyou get the odd person not agreeing but 99% will agree 17/19 is about where you are at if you want to use the car , 12/14 on a real hoon and about 6/7 on track !!!
while my R/987 spyder get 23 ave , 19 on a hoon and 30 mpg on a run !!!
I do think people don't drive that fast or change gear at 4k lol the odd person on here took the piss when I said 3rd gear is all you need in the GT4 on a B road and use the revs, those people own the wrong car if they disagree !

That's the complete opposite to what you have said previously - You mentioned before that you were changing gear at peak torque (4k), because you mistakenly thought that was quicker than using all the revs for max HP. That's why the piss was taken.I agree with the MPG figures though. My GT4 (averages 12mpg) is as you say, far worse than my Cayman R was.

I said I changed at about 6k if you check posts back and not at red line, I also stated I did not have to change out of 3rd for B road blasts and would run upto the revs I had in 3rd rather than change into 4th.I agree with the MPG figures though. I said I would also vbox changing at 6k over changing at red line but never got the chance to run those tests.
I would never change at 4k revs :-) so I would recheck past posts again :-)

Did that Cayman S lettering on your doors come with it, or have you added after? Looks good.
It is a factory option to have those stickers, but a £200 option! I bought 3rd party ones off eBay for about £15 quid and added them myself!I also made the badges black, which I thought was quite nice. The plasti-dip has help up very well over the 2.5 years, hasn't deteriorated at all. Pictures on this thread - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I'm joining the GT4 club on Saturday, beyond excited! Moving up from a 981 Cayman S. Great story behind it as I was literally about to put a deposit down on the one in Bournemouth and then an email reply landed in my inbox.
Not one to believe in fate, but it happened with this! I'll let you remain anonymous unless you wish to say hello. But the previous owner is someone on here and I cannot thank you enough :-)
3 more sleeps!
Congrats! With presuming Ed that makes three of us getting one within the space of about a week. And with at least two more that I mentioned earlier looking like sold, there's obviously strong interest in buying used GT4s at the moment. Not one to believe in fate, but it happened with this! That’s because it’s awesome....!! Congrats all of those who have recently joined the “GT4 Club”. It really is an addictive machine, and I keep wondering why on earth I’m considering swapping it for a 3RS when so much fun can be had for so much less of those hard-earned pennies....
I very nearly pulled the trigger on a 991.1 3RS today, having been offered very good money for my GT4..... But.... Then i started up my GT4, picked up the missus from work, and thought to myself: “Is this car really worth £100k less than a 3RS...?!?!” Seems such a stupid question when you think about it like that....

Looks fantastic, you clearly love driving it....a lot!..very few of us on this thread would advise against you keeping it!
