I've noticed that a lot of cars beings sold outside the network are not significantly under OPC prices when you factor in the full 2yrs+ warranty OPC will give as standard.

For example the RY car at Kent Prestige seems a bit toppy it makes me wonder what the trade to retail spread looks like and what the negotiation room there is?

I'd be reluctant to buy outside of OPC unless it was perfect spec/colour etc and OPC couldn't find me one?

Depending on colour, please elbarotate? Is it that there are some colours commanding a much lower premium even in a high spec with low mileage or rarer pts colours asking for a premium.

Armitage there’s nearly a £10k gap on some of the indy vs. OPC cars and considering the warranty is only worth £1,500 this seems steep.

Agreed, the car in Kent appears overpriced along with quite a few that have been sat there for months on end.

There's also big differences in OPC prices depending where you buy one from e.g. the ticket prices of those in Newcastle and Teeside are usually lower than those in London and Chester. Somewhere like Leicester falls in the middle. Worth bearing in mind when shopping for one. wink

The Kent car is mine on SOR and has an OPC warranty until Dec 2019. Think it is priced very well for the spec.

I thought the warranty aspect would be worth more than that? My understanding is a car sold outside the network needs to have a 111 inspection and a major service before you could buy the warranty. Plus is the warranty price the Boxster/Cayman price or are they charging the full 911 price which is over £1k/pa? If so that puts the cost to near £3k + peace of mind.

The car at GCM looks nice, but with 11k it's overpriced, outside the network and given some feedback on that trader I wouldn't be in a rush to buy it

I thought it was cars out of OPC warranty that needed this? If still under OPC warranty it can be extended as per the normal process.

I think it would only need a service if the last service was outside of the OPC network.

Warranty extension always requires a 111-point check beforehand, and if the car has not been sold privately or via an OPC (i.e. by a non-OPC dealer) then I believe you have to wait 3 months before the warranty can be added. The warranty is only transferable via a private sale or an OPC sale, otherwise it's cancelled and you have to start again. This is why some advertised cars state they are being sold on behalf of an owner as this facilitates warranty transfer.

2 year warranty extension for a 981 Cayman is £1500 (including the 111-point check), but I would imagine it's higher for a GT4.

IF a car has an existing Porsche/OPC warranty as long as you buy the car directly from the private owner the warranty is transferable. Most independent dealers get round this by having the car as SoR so the car is never actually owned by them...thus you buy from a dealer but you get to transfer the warranty from the previous owner.

The 981 GT4 2 year warranty is £1500 including the 111 point check. I phoned Porsche Reading to confirm.

If you're buying a car, it will potentially have at least a year's warranty remaining - if you get it via an OPC they will add 2 years warranty via the sale meaning you get an effective 3 year warranty

That's what happened to me - I was delighted to get a warranty akin to what you get buying a new car

Yes that is true. They have to give you at least 2 years, so if you have less than a year, they top it up by 2 whole years.

Thats not correct, you get the "balance" of the original manufacturer warranty and they will advertise it with an additional 2 year warranty. This is different than the original manufacturer warranty and does have a cost hidden in the purchase price. You can negotiate the price based on this ie take less warranty for a lower purchase price. Effectively what I do is agree a price without the extra warranty to establish a true baseline and then negotiate on price and extra warranty. I effectively got the extra warranty for free on my last purchase doing it this way. nb The used approved additional warranty is worth about £1500 in the advertised price but can vary by model ;-)

^^^ Good ploy but I doubt they will discount GT4 by much.

What's the view on the number of owners these cars have had even though they're less than 3yrs old? The RY one at OPC Teeside has had 3, meaning if you buy it then the next buyer will be #5 and that wouldn't sit well with me.

I know it's priced low, but it's low spec. OK it's got Sat Nav (which is not actually that good but everyone wants it) but only AC and not climate. Anyone know how long they've had it or any background to it?

A big plus for me with buying an OPC car is that warranty also comes with goodwill because you bought it off them. So if you go back to the dealer that supplied it about a problem they are extra helpful to get it sorted through the warranty. However if you go to your OPC with an issue with a car bought elsewhere, they'll often ask the question "did you buy it from us?" If you answer no they don't always seem to be so helpful even though you've got a Porsche warranty. That's my experience anyway.

Not my experience so far
I purchased from Leeds and had warranty work carried out by Guildford no issues at all

Everything's cheaper up north ... ?

Low spec and 3 owners a no no on a GT4 unless it is dirt cheap.

Spec mileage and provenance is all with these cars.

Manual aircon not an issue I have it on the GT4 and Spyder no problems. Makes no difference to value.

My RaspberryPi has been hard at work for almost 11 months now. For the data geeks amongst us, 120 cars have been sold through the network, most expensive advertised at £102K, least expensive advertised at £75K. Obviously, I have no idea what they actually sold for. Highest mileage one is 24K - well done that man!

I have the same view for all 911 models as well if anyone is interested :-)
