997 GTS with a manual box and rwd is worthy of consideration...not a GT car but the standard fit powerkit gives the engine a really nice rewarding top end and works brilliantly with the manual box. Chassis is also a great set up for real world driving. Not a GT car but very popular and sell quickly when they are listed anywhere near £70k.
hope you don;t mind, just my opinion...

The manual in the 997.2 GTS wasn't amazing. Its very poor by GT4 standards and I'm not sure its any different to the standard car.
Powerkit - couldn't tell the difference. I think from memory you have to rev it out a bit more as the extra power is at the end of the rev range.
They really don't sell quickly because they are c£70k for basic spec examples. I think they were less than £10k over standard C2S, but like with like, the gap is now up to £30k in some cases, £20k at best.
I'd pay extra for a GTS, just not that much.

I do love the 997.2 for character, but for performance, the GT4 is difficult to better with a modern interior.

All you get at GT4 money is different options.
I think, all in all you're right on this.. had similar discussion yesterday @ Silverstone.
My first Porsche was a 997 GTS Coupe - and now on my third in the GT4.
I was asked which preferred... I look back at my 997 with rose tinted glasses, and obviously it would hold a special place for me being the first.... as a daily the GTS would be a good car... but current prices i think are too high for what they are and you are into low-mileage premium for some of the examples on the market.
The 997 GTS is a one car to do it all and maybe grow old with.
If you want performance, the GT4 is tough to beat for the money right now.

The 997 is a great car but to improve it simply get rid of the silly back seats, turn the engine around and fit a hatch.

Tewkesbury have a 997 2GTS manual with low miles for about 90k I think?

No leather though which we all know is a major mistake on a GTS! wink

Hexagon have a Black Manual 2GTS for a fiver under £80k with just over 10k miles.

Personally think it’s a lot for that car, as the value is in the low mileage so you can’t drive it but that’s the market it for you.

Don't mind at all. My GTS has the factory SSK fitted which does make a difference to the gearbox...it maybe not GT4 snappy but it's also a pretty nice gearbox. It's a longer throw than the manual in my 991.2 GT3 but I don't drive the GTS and feel like I'm waving around a long throw gearbox either.

You do have to rev the engine out to feel the difference of the Powerkit....but that's really the point, the engine doesn't run out of puff at the top end of the rev range like the standard 3.8.

They don't sell quickly at Hexagon prices but at the right price they sell very quickly....RPM and 911 V have both sold manual carse in days in the past couple of months. Although both were north of £70k as good spec cars.

They definitely aren't a GT4 but for someone who wants a 4 seat 911 with a manual box in the £65 to £75k bracket I am not sure what else you'd buy. 997.1 Turbo ? Nope. 993 C2S ? Maybe but much older cars. The other obvious contender in the GT4 price bracket is the 997.1 GT3.

GTGears don’t think Holinger is the greatest. Maybe dismiss this as they compete in some areas but GTGears are well respected.

That Tewkesbury OPC car at £90k is crazy money even with its ultra low mileage. The recent 911V & JZM sales of manual 997 GTS have been ultra fast but the cars had decent spec (the Tewkesbury car doesn't) and the prices were around £75k. Hexagon still have a few manual cars and whilst they are seemingly priced high again they carry good spec and Hexagon never appear to be in a rush to sell anything.

The nice one at Hexagon is £69k would make a great project car.

My black one is for sale Craig (though it currently has a wrap on which can be taken off).

It's not a Clubsport, & doesn't have the 918 Buckets, but it has the heated bucket seats, PCCBs, and pretty much every other option ticked. Only thing it doesn't have is the Sports Chrono pack.

Let me know if you're interested and I'll let you know where its for sale.

I wouldn’t worry about that. Porsche have used hollinger gearsets and internals for their motorsport gearboxes on several occasions in the past. I’d be happy with Hollinger internals in my gearboxes

What sort of mileage are you after....?? Mine is CWM (so maybe not the darker colours that you’re looking for.....), Clubby, leather, red stitch, Chrono, 3 years Porsche Warranty, recent over-rev report/111pt check.... Every box ticked bar the PCCBs (which are pointless on an already overbraked car anyway).... Keep toying with the idea of “upgrading” to a manual Gen2 GT3, but can’t see past how good value the GT4 cars really are in this price bracket, so holds me back.... And i refuse to accept silly Part-Ex prices....!! But everything has its price.... wink PM me if interested, otherwise this will start to become a “classifieds” thread...!!

It amazes me that compared to the cayman gts the gt4 almost seem underpriced now.

I had a gts a while back and the £110k the Gt4’s were fetching it wasn’t worth the trade up - now it certainly is.

I’m currently debating getting a gt4 - the only fly in the ointment committing now when there is so much unknown on the 718

Thinking it through, the cayman gts price isn’t going to be affected by the new 718 gts, so have to be live the current 981 GT4 prices are rock solid - that’s before you factore in the dpf on the new 718 which seems to have knackered the sound.

Basically I need someone to tell me that the gt4 is a sound place to put my money rather than buying a house to rent!
