After being at Le Mans and the Nurburgring I started looking at GT4's again!! As i was touring Europe i didn't take my 981 BGTS but rented a track car at the ring instead, so didn't get to experience the GTS around the ring.
The thing for me is is it worth the extra 30K, my GTS is manual, and has X73 and i love the combo, but the GT4 is just bugging me. Is anyone based in or near Shropshire that could maybe take me out in their GT4? I just want to see what 30K would actually get me and how much different the GTS and GT4 really are. I really enjoy my GTS, so i need to see if its worth moving to a GT4. I mainly do road driving (not a daily).
Thanks,

Hi I had the Cayman GTS manual and a very high spec one and sold it when I got the 4, they are very different cars to drive, the GTS is a nice road car that you could drive for miles and miles in and it would be fine as like you would be, the 4 on the other hand will bombard your senses every minute of the journey, through the steering wheel, seat, noise and how the car is reading the road. The thing for me is is it worth the extra 30K, my GTS is manual, and has X73 and i love the combo, but the GT4 is just bugging me. It might be a bit to much for you, but if you like your cars like this then it's miles better than the GTS.
The way the 4 goes round courners and brakes is just also in a different league
But try one as its the only way

The eps takes most of steering wheel movement away on a run so you get zero chatter, imo it's very easy to live with ,I daily mine for the 1st year.It might be a bit to much for you, but if you like your cars like this then it's miles better than the GTS.

The rides better than a x73 GTS shod car so it's a pussy cat really. Very usable bar the splitter height.
Bombard your senses is a bit over kill lol but it's very usable on long trips if you have comfort seats or folding or buy a bracket for the 918 ones.
Out of the 5 cars I own it was the least involving, but I do own non run of the mill cars. I had to buy another R early into my ownership to get the involvement back I missed In the GT4.
Thanks for the comments guys, Sounds like i need to get to the PEC and try one.
I drive my GTS pretty quickly going much quicker on roads is not really needed. Yes the downside as i have always said is the steering, more so the ratio and size of the wheel that i dislike, and Id like bucket seats. Reason I am thinking GT4 is i have always wanted a GT car, they look more aggressive, buckets, shorter steering rack and smaller wheel. For road i don't think i need better brakes, and I am happy with X73, but i know the GT4 suspension is way more compliant.
I want to start getting back on track also next year, so in my head i have the following options.
1) Modify the GTS (Pads, Recaro buckets, GT4 Steering Wheel and Airbag £2.5K),
2) Keep the GTS as is and buy a Radical + Trailer £20K
3) Sell GTS and buy and Exige 350
4) Sell GTS and buy a GT4

If by getting on track you mean track days, then do a bit of research on which TDOs will allow Radicals before you go down that route. Some don't, so you might have to get a race license and do test days, which is a bit of a different vibe. I drive my GTS pretty quickly going much quicker on roads is not really needed. I agree you need to try for yourself and YOU need to drive the GT4, as you can see on here there are different opinions, I had a very highly specced BGTS (as David will confirm) and changed for a GT4 and I am not disappointed and have done 10k miles in mine in 15 months including long road trips to France, also driven the NC500 earlier this year, it is a great road and track car, yes you can modify it and improve it but with warranty issues most will keep it standard and unless you are driving god a standard GT4 is a great do everything car that will satisfy most of us.
The GTS in many ways is a better everyday proposition it is a great road car that makes nice noises, drives well and does pretty much everything you could want in a road car. It is nowhere near as good a car on track but if as you say that you don't intend taking the car on track you need to drive the GT4 for a good hour to get a proper feel before deciding on spending the extra £30k.
You can make good arguments either way and its your money and your decision nobody else can make this decision for you.
Have fun deciding.

an x73 GTS is a rare car, just try it on track 1st with a nice geo and tyres, as you might regret selling it, it's quite easy to pick up a GT4.I drive my GTS pretty quickly going much quicker on roads is not really needed. for track I would go Elise cup. it's far nicer on parts/tyre/brakes etc they are £35k and you could buy a run about like a Golf Clubsport S for £33k
that's still only £68k and a great 2 car garage. An exige 350 will be £50k 2nd hand and cost double for track work.
GT4 a nice shout if you mod it a bit and cost the most for track work.

Get yourself over to Donington Park on 24th July for the Porsche Club track day and ask ChrisW to give you some passenger laps in his GT4. He will be more than happy to. That will give you a good insight into what they are like.I drive my GTS pretty quickly going much quicker on roads is not really needed. Chris is great driver and he is mighty in that car.
spectating is free, passenger lap is a tenner and plus helmet hire.

Came very close to selling it 2 months ago but didn't really know what to get next and then was worried I might regret it as the same spec migjy be a difficult find so ended up having to pull out of the deal. for track I would go Elise cup. it's far nicer on parts/tyre/brakes etc they are £35k and you could buy a run about like a Golf Clubsport S for £33k

Ideally I'd like one car as I have a company car which is maintained and big cheap, the odd track day, ring trip and mainly road hooning. Hence though the GT4 does tick all the boxes apart from the extra 30K lol.
Any recommendation on brake pads for track work, tyres now the car is out of warranty id like Cup's if I can find them in the right size.

Hi, it’s my first Porsche track day that day, was looking at buying a helmet but if you can hire one that’s great! What can I expect from the day? Passenger laps sound like a good idea to start! Chris is great driver and he is mighty in that car.
