No it's not too cheap....merely that both cars are stupidly overpriced imo at those levels. Especially when you consider what can be bought for that kind of money as well in either case.
Look forward to hearing what you would buy for £100k. Do you own either car ?

I do know what the other guy was getting at. You're starting to be at mp412c money, or entry level 458, v12v etc etc. Arguably each of those is more of an event that the gt4. Not passing a view on depreciation comparisons and I know that those three will be hugely more expensive to run. If you're spending 100k or so though there are a lot of choices.

Well, let's see. For £100k to spend on driving pleasure i could have

- a exige v6 cup and some form of caterham
- a 996 or 997.1 gt3 plus throw 15k worth of quality dampers and diff upgrades at it
- for not a whole lot more a 12c spider. Or a manual r8 v10 plus.

Now if I wanted to purely make money on a car for that £100k then that's potentially different.

Please sir will you point me in the direction of a 458 for £100k and I'll buy it, LHD doesn't count!

But why does it have to be new?

If you have £100k you can buy new or used. That gives you a lot of options.

And there's me questioning whether buying at list price is a sensible move to avoid a potential hit of depreciation! However, not like my car is just around the corner, it is 7 months away!!!
I have also questioned 6+ months ago whether buying at list is a sensible move as I no longer want to be buying new cars that you take a hit or even a small hit I got it right with the spyder with no depreciation in 3.5 years and I think I have got it right with the gt4!
in 3 years time imo if the economy is all still good I cannot see why the gt4 will still not be circa list plus ie £65k perhaps more for a low mileage well specd example!what does a 3 year old 991s sell for? and would a 3year old gt4 be a better or worse buy at that price point ?
imo the crazy overs at present will most likely fall to a more stable £90k max or £10-15k overs and falling slowly over next 3 years to a stable £65-70k!
all the above pure speculation of course
so I would buy in confidence knowing that you are buying relatively free motoring for the next 3 years and if they do build a 981.2 gt4 in the next 3 years that will also have crazy overs lifting the second hand values of current model

Without question the GT4 is an astonishing package and a very good car for it's list price.

Accepting that the cars referred to are all going to be second owner --- if low mileage, once you reach £100k there are some very good options.

Some of these options can be found with mileages of under 5000 miles in three years with two or three annual services ... and a couple of previous loving owners.

These also are astonishing value --- they are just a different experience.

How do you compare for example a secondhand GT3 and MP4-12c with equal mileages and each at for example, £130k ??

The 12c would probably be the best of the best, --- and also be a future classic ??

Then stick the two side by side in a supermarket car park an only one of the two will be considered to be a supercar ...

Then stick the two side by side on a serious trackday and very few drivers would exceed to capabilities of the MP4-12c ...

It's only that it doesn't seem the right thing to do to "rag" a McLaren .... or an Audi R78 V10 ... or an Aston ... or a Merc ... ???

The power of Porsche brand positioning ...

Lots of reasons why people(not necessarily me) buy new.....

Car is fresh out of the box with 'no' miles and nobodies previous cast off

Spec the car EXACTLY how you want

Security of full no quibble warranty

Latest plate (sadly, this is probably very important for many!)

Latest model and technology

Have you tried the servicing costs on the McLaren? They won't even supply a paint code. No real indy network. You will also need £130k to buy a Spyder. Prefer the GT4 to early GT3's and wouldn't touch another Lotus

Ahh sir your thinking of doing a track day in your McLaren. Right that will be a full check over/service before you go and the same again when you have finished say £5K might cover it!!!!!! Warranty cover sir!!! Phew its not a racing car you know sir.

Compare and contrast

Cayman GT4: fill with fuel, check tyre pressures and your good to go. smile

No, it said "limited availability" before now; strange for them to change to "restricted availability"

Easy mistake to make; not sure how significant the change of wording is though.

Have done over 12 trackdays in the 12c this year alone so i think I don't need to be told incorrect numbers about servicing costs/checks. And...it's a one hour labour worth of check by and large so £5k claimed above is frankly risible.

OK apologies for the massive exaggeration but still a bit of a PITA given the relative scarcity of service centers.

New one on Piston Heads today at a princely sum of £110k, to be fair looks like all the options were ticked on this beauty!
