If the base car is £90k as suggested by Car magazine, then it will be 30% more expensive for a given spec than the 981 variant.

This will narrow the gap to the GT3.

The new Clubsport which is being delivered from February (not road legal) is Euro 157k + vat for the Competition version and Euro 134k + vat for the Trachday version which is not available in the UK.

As an aside, the new 992 has weight distribution close to 60:40 ... 911's were 67.5 : 32.5 and Cayman was 57.5 : 42.5 ??

So the Cayman difference is being eroded ...

It’ll be a good barometer to the price rise of the 992 GT3. I think there’s scope for a hefty rise if Porsche wanted.

Assume back:front?

My 981 PDK Cayman's last CG (EU basis) weights were F 45% R 55%

Me also which put me off buying a 2 yr old 650s spider about 2 yrs ago. Which by the way would have been 165k then and now worth likely 120k. Certainly glad I didn’t pull the trigger as the test drive blew me away after getting back in my old and slow f430 hehe
A few friends have them and haven't had issues. A friend had a 650S Spider and a few things were sorted under warranty otherwise fine and in a 675LT. Another is now in a 570GT and again no issues to date. Both cars are mega, the 570 is good at everything, obviously no manual and sounds damp even with a sports exhaust, nothing a Larini will not sort. But decats, and remap, 650hp.

Warranty is the issue, £3500 from Mclaren for a 570. Thorney now offer a warranty also at a around £2500. Still very expensive compared to Porsche, if this came down to say £1000 a year, I do think more people would be in them.

This thread is getting a little side-tracked on the new 718GT4 and losing the debate on futures with the current 981.

I'm hearing all sorts of stories that 981 will 'fall out of bed' pricewise in next 6 months but market appears to contradict albeit some have been for sale for months.

Doesn't help they're so mileage sensitive when they've no need to be.

Weight distribution isn't everything though. the polar moment of a rear engine car is always going to be more rearward biased than a mid engined car even with only on the face of it a small difference in weight distribution.

I'm currently looking for one but its hard to know if now is the right time or to wait? Assuming the 718 is NA and manual and around £90k with necessary options it will be at overs at £100k for several months. However It looks like customer cars won't be arriving till end of the year There is bound to be an increase in number of PX's of 981's but its not going to be enough to flood the market. Theses cars are so spec sensitive to the individual purchaser that the chance of finding your ideal spec at an agreeable price will still be low.

I wanted a new 981 desperately 3 years ago but I did exactly what was stated here and went and bought a McLaren 12C for just a bit more as it seemed such good value in comparison. TBH the McLaren probably cost me less in depreciation over the 2.5 years I owned it than a 981 would have done. However faced with the same dilemma again I will just buy the 981 as they have now depreciated to their list price. If you follow the same logic a 718 is going to be £90k in 3 years and this means a 981 should be around £60k and so on...

So I have come to the conclusion if you find the spec you want then buy it at the best price you can. You may lose £5-10k by winter when the 718 arrives but you would have used it and this should level out after but most importantly you will have the car you want going forward and be happy with it. Cars depreciate and that's life but Porsche specials do it less than almost anything else.

Being this is the GT4 thread to end all GT4 threads....

Would a forward facing car seat fit in I) normal GT4 seats ii) carbon seats?

Presume it obvs won’t be isofix, so it would be the seatbelt type.

For what age/stage?

You can put a child seat in the regular sports plus seats(comfort).
Owners manual explicitly says that you should not put child seats (stage 1or 2) in the buckets....although they do fit... so it’s really up to you on that one.

Do you have passenger airbag disable?

Thanks that’s helpful. For a 3 year old so I guess stage 2. Presume the airbag disable is done in the door like most cars.

I haven’t got one (a GT4) yet but exploring it as a possibility.

Carbon seats just look so much more purposeful than the standard ones!

Unfortunately my 3 year old can’t ride with me anymore in the GT4 due to the buckets, where we had many drives when I had my GTS with sports seats. Do miss being able to take her out as she loves ‘Daddy’s race car’. She only gets to sit in the seat stationary in the garage at the moment.

Just got my GT4 in GT Silver and it’s awesome. What are the recommended tyre pressures when cold? Is it 29/32 psi?

This is only likely due to crash testing not being done in the seats. Same on our Lotus stuff. If the seats are safe for an adult they are safe for a seat or booster so not subduing I would worry about. Also the pay above're switching airbags off that's only for rear facing seats.

I've had all 3 kids out in lotus cars/carbon bucket Porsche etc.

That is a very nice spec similar to mine and would have listed over £80k you would have paid mid £80's from an OPC for that car and it would have sold. Don't listen to some of the stuff written, it will always be the same, good cars with the right spec will sell as there are not many of them, be it GT4, Gt3 or anything else. If your happy with it buy it, drive it and enjoy it.
Thank you for the reassurance. Took my new (to me) GT4 for its first drive this weekend and i’m overjoyed with it. I can really see what all the hype is about. To my surprise it also came with PPF installed which is great as I had planned to get it done.

I really hope the new version is just the same, perhaps with shorter gearing. Leave everything else the same, it’s just perfect and plenty enough power for the road (for me anyway).
