Does anyone know the history on the Carmine Red one at Tonbridge? Looking to treat myself if I can persuade she who holds the bank account access codes....
I don't think it's as nice as this one,https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

These are indeed pretty low spec / relatively high mileage cars. Still a great buy though, especially at that money. They've still got the engine, the chassis/suspension, the brakes so what else do you really need to have fun in one?
Rack up the miles and forget about resale.

Yep, the term low spec does crack me up.

the price ranges from £64k to £90k retail so specs do make a big impact on price as do miles. They've still got the engine, the chassis/suspension, the brakes so what else do you really need to have fun in one?

Most 2nd hand buyers like a full spec as the cars are better value and easier to sell.

The funniest quote was 'Poverty Spec', ironic when a base GT4 is £75K,They've still got the engine, the chassis/suspension, the brakes so what else do you really need to have fun in one?

You can pick up no less than ten Dacia Sandero's for that and still have over £5K left for petrol

If you get a good deal on an non ideal spec then just go for it I'd say. The main bits of the car are common across them all. Most 2nd hand buyers like a full spec as the cars are better value and easier to sell.
The things going to cost you a good bit of wedge to own anyway...no ones making money out of holding these things pristine anymore (thankfully).

All well and good for you, but if it's an odd colour combo or lacking something most people want it may take a long time to sell if and when the time comes. The things going to cost you a good bit of wedge to own anyway...no ones making money out of holding these things pristine anymore (thankfully).
There's a reason some cars hang about and some fly off dealer forecourts, and it's not because of the price...

I'm not talking about weird colors here.

Even when something's cheap it can be undesirable.
That's an interesting point.GT4 buyers really are a very small/niche group and will tend to get smaller over the years IMO...maybe there isn't a bum for every seat.
When I looked at them I decided I could afford the upfront entry cost but the running costs would eventually wear me down in terms of cost/reward so 'passed'. I definitely wasn't thinking the thing would hold serious value (could be wrong).
If you can afford one and prepared to blow a few £10k's during ownership then you'll have a ball. It's the ones that are getting mothballed I just don't get.
The carnage on stock markets sure won't be helping to increase the pool of buyers ATM (and worse to come I'd say).

I don't understand the garage queens either. Buy it and drive it
Exactly, if you can't afford to take the hit then head over to the Poverty Pork thread....my fave thread here!Or hang out for a weekend with a gang of under 30yo petrol heads hammering their £5k BMW, Lexus, etc. They know the limits of what they can afford and just get on with it. If it breaks they fix it (themselves). It's a refreshing reality check.

Hi All,
Does anyone have any info on the Red gt4 listed on ebay? Cat S / rear quarter damage. Not something i'd usually consider but normal asking prices are out of reach to me and it could make a dream a reality.
I posted that on here a while ago, when it was at 50k, no one seemed to know much about it, only comments were that it was to dear at that priceDoes anyone have any info on the Red gt4 listed on ebay? At say 45k it 'could' be a great buy, but you need to know exactly what was done, and who by. Would need a thorough inspection

Asked the guy some q's out of interest and got nothing useful back. Given it's a cat car, it should have a listing twice as long as a regular GT4.. not one sentence!Does anyone have any info on the Red gt4 listed on ebay? Cat S / rear quarter damage. It was on a bid recently and didn't hit reserve, assuming he put the reserve at 50k. Was bidded to low 40's I believe. It's been on ebay for months at 50k.
Pitch them an offer based on a full description of the damage. If it's not too major and sorted correctly you could have a bargain GT4. As long as you're not going to be a in a rush to sell it... but then a blind monkey could write a better advert than that bloke. 15k below market value for a non cat low spec GT4 is too high currently.

Looks like it went for 40k. It was too much of a gamble for me considering the lack of history/information. It was on a bid recently and didn't hit reserve, assuming he put the reserve at 50k. Was bidded to low 40's I believe. It's been on ebay for months at 50k.

This smashed up example is back up!
Written off on the way home from OPC on day one of ownership.
Salvaged, repaired and only 400 miles still and one owner HPI clear still.
The lying crook tries to sell once in a while. Keeps getting rumbled though!

How does this work though? Surely if through insurance company it would get Cat C etc? If not via insurance how can someone afford to pay £15k plus, say, and still make a profit on the sale?Written off on the way home from OPC on day one of ownership.

Pretty sure another five 981 GT4's have been added on AutoTrader in the last couple of days...it's jumped from 31 to 36. Been sitting steady at about 30 for a few months.
Might have my numbers wrong so let me know if I have.
