The Audi behind me?

I think it sounds absolutely awful. I hate the noise they make as well as other DSG audis. Just sounds so forced and like farts. (excluding big engine beasts like the R8 obviously)

When my R was in for MoT and warranty extension work the other week I had a new 718 Cayman PDK as a loan car. The noise of the flat 6 with sports exhaust on my car when I picked it up was like sweet sweet music to my ears after the ghastly drones and barks and farts of the 718. It blows my mind that people defend and seem to like the new sound. Unpleasant is the only word I have for it.

Exactly like the 718 haha.

Awful noise and I'd never even consider the 718 now because of it. Makes me laugh also when people try to defend it.

"it's not too bad actually"

"no mate, it's st!"

Playing Devil's advocate....but what would we think if Porsche came up with a 718 Cayman R in the near future?

I know it would get me thinking even though I've not been in a 718 yet. scratchchin

It'll have a four pot, therefore it'll sound st and have turbo lag and therefore I wouldn't be interested.

The 718 S is a lovely thing to drive. But it could be half the price of my R and I'd take the R. The noise really does kill it for me. So if they do a 718 R I won't be joining the queue. And I wasn't closed minded on the 4 pots, I actually hoped to like the new car. Alas I can't like it.

IF (a big if I know) one came about I would have an open mind about it. Partly because it might be a Porsche I might be able to order new. I've no chance of a new GTx Porsche because of the current selection process. And to be frank the selection process has tarnished the brand for me in recent times. But even if a 718R was launched and if I was able to order one, there would be the problem that I wouldn't be able to try it before I order. Because whatever we think about the new 4 pot it appears that any new special edition Porsche sells out before deliveries start.

I suspect that if you could order one, before delivery there'd be one available at the PEC in Silverstone - I then suspect you'd say (if noise is a thing for you) "Er, no. I'll cancel my order and I'm looking for a 987R!" biglaugh

I think having two 987Rs would be a bit greedy of me. wink

If you are serious Steve, I would take a quick trip to OPC Wolverhampton after arranging a test drive on the pretence of buying their Graphite Blue 718 Boxster S with Sports Exhaust. It should give an idea of the sound, how it feels, how it makes you feel etc.

On the other hand the GT4 is epic...

but I might be a little biased wink

No, not serious, just interested in current CR owners thoughts IF a 718 version came along....as seen above not much love for the idea at the moment! laugh

"If" a 718R was released and it had a 4pot I wouldn't have any interest what so ever. If it had a 6 pot then I would be very interested.

I’ve just had a PDK 718 S Boxster as a loaner.

Firstly I must say it’s a ridiculously quick car.
So much grunt from 2.5k rpm. It made me smile.
But it sounds sooo bad... probably even worse with the PSE engaged.
It’s sad really, as it’s a great sport car except the noise.
But no way would I part with cash for one, not even at half price SH.
I’d take a 981 every day.

I’m not a big fan of the 991.2 turbo engine either. I hate the whistling noise it produces, but obviously far more pleasant than the 4.

A nice one has just appeared on Autotrader - I'd be tempted if it had leather and was Aqua Blue...

No affiliation. Unknown dealer quantity, but if all checks out, looks good!

Looks lovely that. Would happily have it myself.

On another note, is anyone taking their R to the Porsche meet at 9e next Saturday? (25th Nov)

Would be good to see some other Rs
