Agreed Henry, and we can't live in the past.
The Cridfords car looks a really interesting sweet spot ... thanks for the link !
The colour now looks wonderful and in real world terms so long as reasonably well maintained, it is low mileage with a lot of fun to be had ... and relatively inexpensive to run.
The Cayman R did create room for the GT4 sub brand and as a car for all seasons it would appear to be a lovely ownership proposition.

Crifords have a Carmine cayman so they might be willing to send you a photo of the two side by side.

I test drove one a couple of times early in 2020 (I was selling my 1M at the time).
Love the looks and the way it went down the road was a revelation (brilliant test route from Alpine Winchester). More than quick enough, engine OK, nice interior and a real sense of driving something special/different.
That first drive was dazzling but I had a niggling doubt about auto in such a fun car (I was 100% open minded beforehand having enjoyed DCT in my old M3). Nothing wrong with the gearbox itself, clever enough and crisp ups/downs and seem to remember nice flappy paddles.
If the salesman had been a better salesman, instead of a proper petrolhead/nice guy then I might have placed a deposit anyway.
A second test drive confirmed that I personally ‘need’ 3 pedals in my weekend toy.
Brilliant little cars, I’d have bought one and likely still own it if they did a manual. To be clear I’m not moaning and fully understand why Alpine couldn’t do a manual version.
So nearly mine….

I am not sure if I am curious about the auto/paddle just to have a new experience and I have other manual cars currently. I perhaps would end up wishing it was a manual too however.
The way they go down the road is very appealing, plus the rarity.

This is a good point - I put my name down for a GR86 because I thought it had a shot at being a new, fun to drive, manual toy. Guess I'll find out next year
Yeah I think that looks a great car for the money. Should be fun more of the time on the road than more powerful cars i suspect. Sounds like they will be rare in the UK as well.

I was tempted to try one but the auto only and lack of luggage space were the main problem for me. I'm not anit-auto and indeed I've driven cars I think are definitely better as auto, but they have been either much quicker or more GT car. And space wise, the way I use my Cayman it is not unusual for me to have a pile of hiking kit in it, or a load of stuff for a road trip and the 110 just doesn't offer the practicality for how I use the car. In fairness, I'd probably accept this compromise if manual was an option, but it isn't.
The boots are pretty pathetic I agree vs the Cayman.J-P said:

Yeah - only 400 coming to the UK apparently. I was lucky to get hold of one! The reviews of the prototypes have been very positive, so I have my fingers crossed that it will be awesome!Sounds like they will be rare in the UK as well.
How’s this for a laugh?
Quote for 10 year minor service on my R:
Oil & filter
Pollen filter
Brake fluid
Normal check of car
A new check Porsche insist on making - “video evidence check of the drains” which I assume means those under the bonnet.
Approx £900
4 or 5 week wait to get it booked in.
Last service in 2020, including plugs was “only” £875.
Waiting for the next closest OPC (240 mile round trip) to call back with a price.
Don’t mind paying to play but that price takes the piss! Think I’ll be forfeiting the remainder of my warranty and going Indy or DIY.

I thought that manufacturers could not prevent you using a reputable independent as long as everything was carried out as per the manufacturer's recommendations and using OEM parts. As per those used by Porsche themselves. Quote for 10 year minor service on my R:

Has that changed - is there a clause in the small print that insists that you use an OPC for all work?

IIRC EU block exemption rules stated what you said, ie as long as you used a VAT registered garage and they used Porsche approved parts to service the vehicle, the manufacturer’s warranty wouldn’t be voided.Has that changed - is there a clause in the small print that insists that you use an OPC for all work?
However, the Porsche AUC warranty (for which read insurance policy) is not issued by Porsche, but a rather a third party, and thus the same T&C’s do not apply.
So if it says the servicing must be carried out by an OPC using genuine Porsche parts, you have no choice other than to abide by those T&C’s if you want your warranty to remain valid.

I had the same done at OPC Nottingham around 3 weeks ago and the bill was approx. £700. Feels like there's room for negotiation.Quote for 10 year minor service on my R:

I’d just go Indy, OPC stamps on a 10-12 yr old car don’t matter as much now.
A good respected Indy is just as good IMO…
I agree most go to an Indy even after 4 years a good Indy can work out better price wise and service wise.A good respected Indy is just as good IMO…
If not selling back to opc which the majority won't down to the appalling trade in prices your gonna pay a premium just for the Porsche stamp .
Booked in for 20k service & brake fluid with SCS Porsche who seem to have a really good reputation down here in the SW. The earliest they could fit me in is 27th Sep which I also take as a good sign.
bks to ridiculous OPC pricing and their overly restrictive approved warranty terms - fingers crossed the engine doesn’t st itself in the coming months.
Some minor improvements and PS4S are now also on the cards…
