Just had some insurance quotes for a potential purchase - even using several registrations of Cayman Rs, the quotes all had an automatic estimated market value of around £26-28k??? WTF? Even WBAC quote about £26k... confused

Surely, market value should reflect the current market replacement cost ie £38-47k (mileage dependant)?

I know Insurance companies like to go on glasses guide and the likes, but why doesn't it take into account the actual market?

If not, I've love to know where I can get a Cayman R for less that £30k, cos I'd have one tomorrow!

Failing normality, does this mean I have to get an agreed value policy?

The 26-28k is based on a Cayman or Cayman S..... not a Cayman R. I previously tried WBAC for a price out of curiosity and they quoted that initially, but then called me a few days later to ask for more details - they didn't have a Cayman R in their system.

Surely in this digital age, where things take seconds (let alone days) to update, the fact the CR is 5 years old, AND the value increases of them (and many other high end limited editions) have been well documented ie. not a recent spike, you'd think they'd be on the ball?!

It seems insurance companies and the trade are 3 years behind everything else! irked

Anybody have any more information on this one?

Seems very cheap. High miles yes but a good spec otherwise.

It's been on AutoTrader for a couple of months, originally was up at £35,944.

Shame about the mileage, low spec too. Not a bad price considering, but it'd have to be a keeper with 62k already on the clock...

Low spec? It's only missing the PSE from the holy trinity?

Low spec for me... Needs more than just buckets, PSE and spyders to be well specced imo. No nav, no leather, no ceramics, rear wiper? Ugh, no thanks!

Rear wiper is classic Porsche!

Well you'll never see Ceramics. Nav is totally useless too.

It may well be, but it ruins the lines of the back end imo.

They occasionally pop up. Nav is better than no nav for resale...

It doesn't have AC either, which seems to have a big impact on price and desirability of these cars (based on my experience of looking for my ideal spec Cayman R for the last 3 years of so!).

Even so, its the cheapest R I recall seeing advertised in that time, excluding Cat D.

I've seen several Rs with ceramics for sale this year. And Nav is high on my wish list too. I certainly don't find it useless on my Gen 1 Cayman.

However I came to the conclusion some time ago that my ideal spec R doesn't exist so I do accept some significant compromises will be needed, compared with my current car.

Do you think you will miss the R?
I’m guessing you are making way for your new GT3. I only recently bought my R and I would find it difficult to find anything else that’s so much fun to drive, Porsche really got it right with these.
Cheers

I will miss it yes, I sold one before and missed it so much I bought a 2nd one :-) , done over 30k miles in the R's , they are honest drivers cars with just enough bhp.
I do have a 987.2 Spyder with £8k worth of upgrades though so will use that more when the R has gone, I only did 600 miles in it last year so it’s daft to have both and I need to release funds.

I’ll look forward to your thoughts on the new GT3.
I generally like the older stuff, but I am thinking about selling my 996.1 GT3cs for the new one.
I know i will be paying overs but you only once.
All the best.

Picked up a bargain set of winter wheels and tyres that I've put on mine. Porsche allows and N rated winter tyres with over 7mm of tread. Means the Spyders can have some decent tyres on them and not the N rated PS2s I've been stuck with and if it needs warranty work I'll shove these on.

I took the car out in the snow and ice to try and I was amazed just how good it was. Managed up a very steep compacted snow/ice incline when I went out hill walking. I'm sort of hoping for some fresh snow some evening for a bit of a snow hoon biggrin

I've also decided that while I prefer the original wheels, unsurprisingly, I prefer silver wheels on it to black.... so looks like the Spyders will be getting a refurb sometime when funds allow....
