Who was that message meant for chap?
There was a post that's since been deleted, looked very nice but no PSE or manual...Mr D, my specs have been loosened a little. Otherwise, as you say, they never come up. Nav is no longer a prerequisite, neither is leather. With hindsight, the JZM car that ChrisABP bought was pretty good!

Jim - my car was the 911V car and you're correct - you should have bought it as its superb! Don't miss the extended leather from my 997 GTS or GT4 at all and the Garmin nav & Apple carplay in the new head unit that I had fitted is better than any Porsche Nav. As I've now mentioned a few times driving the R is a revelation and its an outstanding example of so much less offering so much more!

he has been looking for a car with impossible spec.
but they don't really come up for sale now let alone in crazy specs, a lot seem keepers.
True can't remember when I last saw a low mileage manual buckets PSE Chrono Spyder wheels for sale. Let alone one with leather and the outdated sat nav.in CRs don't think it's a big deal.

Sorry to derail - But I thought I'd go to a thread where the owners are first.
Thinking of making a foray into the world of the Cayman R - Have just chopped in my LE500 M3 and have been looking for something fun to drive - Budgeting to 45k and whilst having a look on the Porsche website I saw the below Cayman R
http://locator.porsche.com/ipl-customer/ipl/detail...
Any opinions on this?
With my budget I have the choice of a Cayman R, a 987 S, or even buying a new 718 Cayman.
Please help me decide

The R is a very special car imo, but black seems the worse seller and that car is PDK again the worse sellers.Thinking of making a foray into the world of the Cayman R - Have just chopped in my LE500 M3 and have been looking for something fun to drive - Budgeting to 45k and whilst having a look on the Porsche website I saw the below Cayman R

but it's all personal at the end of the day.
I see the R as the modern 964RS and as thus it really should be manual, if you want PDK then a 981 GTS is worth a look, if you want a 4 pot turbo then the 718 is worth a look.
The R has a following for a reason and many owners came from 964's and are very happy in the choice.
I cannot help you decide as you must know deep down what you want from a car and any thing I say is pointless on the matter.

Brilliant car...the only reason I changed it was to buy a GT4.

I see this one is still up for sale, although it now has the Porsche script back on it again - Found a copy of the original advert by the look where it wasn't on there.https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C950230

I must admit I've always had a hankering for the 'R' - I've discarded the example above as it's now showing 6 previous owners.but it's all personal at the end of the day.

My heart says get an R - Regarding the Manual \ PDK debate - I'm not to fussed and with the scarcity of the cars coming up , I don't think I can afford to be.
But the must haves are the 4 primary that are mentioned in depth on this thread

I think the gearbox choice is the biggest choice, not being many about does not mean plump for PDK. I would rather a 981 GTS PDK over a R PDKMy heart says get an R - Regarding the Manual \ PDK debate - I'm not to fussed and with the scarcity of the cars coming up , I don't think I can afford to be.

but I would take a manual R every day of the week.
once you bring dated tech to cars it dates badly imo gen 1 PDK is not great. the cars don't down shift when you want etc etc 981 gen 2 PDK is far better and 718 better again, and GT cars better again. the R with PDK will make you loose interest in it very quick.
while people don't like the engine in the 718, because the cars have tech the 718 is a better carto drive than the 981.
the R is about having NO tech, hydraulic steering , passive shocks, a real diff, no PTV, No RWS, no PASM no PDK no EPS no E-diffs.
If you start adding tech choose a newer car imho esp PDK.

You'll find many have multiple owners. They're often bought as trophy cars to use as a daily driver and then they find that buckets are a PITA to get in and out so they move on to something else.Porsche911R said:
