Another big thumbs up for PS4S here, in the wet at Anglesey plus the Ohlins on softer settings the car was sublime and for the road all I really need.

Would love to try Cup 2s on a dry track but think to get the best would need to add more neg camber to go with the suspension set up.

Highly recommend the RSS billet coffin arms and a quality geo setup, mine was done at Centre Gravity.
The turn in and front end bite is quite impressive from the mix of those and Cup2s. I bet yours feels good on the Ohlins smile

Yep mine were fitted and set up by GC too, next on list will be coffin arms and toe links as I think car is a bit of halfway house for now but Ohlins are impressive so far.

Thanks so much for your replies. A couple of points to clarify:

I too thought of running Cups 2. The car is one of my toys so has never seen a cold day let alone winter. Plus my other toys are permanently on track rubber so I'm kinda used to double guessing...

The car is still under Porsche warranty. I therefore take it there is no leeway on NOT using N Rated Tyres?

Thinking of getting a dashcam for my cayman r, was wondering what other people have done. I currently use the usb to power my bevoo bluetooth, if I bought a usb splitter and powered both the bluetooth adaptor and dashcam would there be enough power to support both? Or has anyone gone down the route of using the ciggy lighter? I'm not sure I like the idea of a usb adaptor sticking out though!

Would look into the hard wire option but I am still in warranty and from what I understand that would cause a problem with it.

Looking at getting a nextbase 412GW for the record.

Any help would be great, cheers.

I bought a hard wire kit and used a piggy back fuse holder to take a live supply from fuse box. Just find a fuse that goes on and off with ignition.

Does that impact the warranty though?

I am sure if the worst happens that dashcam will be used against you !
Avoid at all costs imo, same with trackers, it’s like signing your own prison sentence owning one.

How can it? You're not cutting/splicing any wires and can be quickly removed in any case. Much the same as plugging anything into the 12v power socket really.

Quick question on tyres here. Is anyone running Pilot Sport 4S on their R? I ordered a set but, to cut a very long story short, Michelin are being a pain and having slipped the date for the tyres 3 times are now not even offering a delivery date - yes, there are places with them but £100/tyre more for the rears.

Now when I phoned up one company who deal with a lot of these he very strongly advised that if I liked to drive the car hard that I go for Super Sports instead. He told me he had had to deal with a lot of complaints about 4S not lasting and not performing well when hot and explained how they are much thinner side walled than the Super Sport. He said that he hadn't had any of these issues with Super Sports... So I'm wondering about changing my order to Super Sports. It would be a cost saving and I'm being told there may be advantages too. I'm just curious if anyone has run 4S's long enough to know how they hold up on the R?

What bloke told you this? Someone who has some supersports laying around he wants rid of?

When I spoke to a Michelin advisor they told me apart from the Cup tyres, that the PS4S was the best tyre option for my car and leagues ahead of the PS2 N rated one.

Hence I went for PS4S's on mine. Can't speak for longetivity though. But they are great and feel superb.

I love super sports, just not as good in the wet, where the PS4S wet grip is amazing.

No issue with supersports though ,as a Dry tyre I think I preferred them, would I go back, nope, I like the wet weather performance on the new tyre.

I have P4S on my E92 M3 and like them a lot. Having said that I used the Supersports on my 1M and have them on my R (fitted when I bought it) and really like the feel of them.
Given the choice I would opt for the latest P4S

Admittedly not on the R but have the later PS4s on my wife’s new Fiesta STline. Superb tyre, great feel and performance in every condition.
I think they’re probably right by saying they’re the best all round tyre Michelin offer and I’d probably say they’re the best all round tyre anyone offers right now.
Had Supersports on my Impreza and really liked those but I’d say the PS4 is probably as good in the dry and better everywhere else. I have Cup2s on my R and as a dry tyre they’re pretty well unmatched for road rubber.

In your situation I’d probably wait for the PS4 if you can, yet if you need tyres NOW, get the Supersports and you won’t be disappointed.

I do tend to treat most things with a degree of cynicism, however the guy had neither in stock and would have had to order in either but the 4S would cost me over £100 more a corner so I don't think he was telling me this for his benefit. He specifically cited a high volume of complaints from owners of powerful rear drive cars, as well as Michelin, apparently, having said when he had gone to them about some of the issues, that the 4S was not (in standard guise - some sizes are N rated) track rated in any way where as the Super Sports were.

As I say, I treat these things with cynicism, hence my asking if anyone on here had first hand experience on an R. However, the chap offered a lot of details that didn't really seem like the sort someone would be making up on the spot and went into a bit of technical detail on both tyres. So now I'm torn. I can get the Super Sports for less money and faster and the latest version is A wet rated for fronts and rears instead of B so I wonder if the latest update has happened since David had his on the R? I was told that was fairly recent.

For those with 4S on a Cayman R, can I ask what mileage you've done on them and what your impressions have been? Peoples experience of N rated ones on other Porsche's is less useful as the N rated versions are different.

Cheers guys

Is this on your Cayman R? Or one of your other cars?

£100 per corner is a large saving. Where were you looking for your PS4S tyres? Black circles was by far the cheapest when I got mine. My friend who works for VW group and gets tyres at a huge discount couldn't even get me them cheaper (fitted).

I've not done many miles on the PS4S so as I say, I can't comment on longetivity. But I've had them throughout the entire horrible winter and they've been superb. Even now the weather is great they still feel amazing. How long they will last I'll have to see but then I'm not doing huge mileage in the R anyway so I would expect to have to replace them at age over mileage.

It's a long (and dull) story so I won't bore you with it all but the PS4S were ordered ages ago at £450 for the two rears. The place ordering from them can only get from Michelin UK who slipped the delivery date twice and then are now not even giving the garage a date at all. Other places can get them from Michelin in Germany or Belgium - I forget which - but the place I ordered from can't so I'd have to cancel that order and get from somewhere else. Black circles when I just tried didn't even list 4S in the right size and load rating at the moment. However, and I'm wondering if there was an error here, I just looked at Camskill who are listing them at £236 something.... the other day they were over £300 on there as I'd the page still open and just refreshed it. Weird!
