I wish! I was looking at it a couple of months ago. Thought about getting it for myself.
Change of plan? Thought you already had a R ?
Sold it last year frown

Continuing the shifter/cables chat. biggrin

My car has the OEM Porsche short shift and it does IMO feel pretty good, not perfect, but very good.

When i bought the car i purcahsed it from RPM Technik and the previous owner had indeed fitted the full billet Numeric roller bearing shifter and Numeric billet cables. However these were removed shortly after as the owner said he found the shift action too stiff?
These parts were included in the sale of my car and i have them at home and have always wondered about having them refitted, however im fearful of dropping £350 to have them fitted and find that ive broken something that didnt need fixing so to speak.
Could it be that they were setup incorrectly? or do i need to upgrade the engine mounts to take full advantage?

Anyone here using the Numeric setup and what are your thoughts?

Thanks smile

once you take all the play out it can be tricky as the engines moving about, I never had an issue with the oem short shift to be fair, thought it was a great shift. I did have an engine mount filler though which imo is a great mod.

that unit does look great though I would have to fit it just to see ;-)

Is how good it looks not reason enough to try it? haha. I'd be fitting it if it was mine. But then I have never been totally enamored with the stock shift. I was perhaps spoiled by an incredibly precise and nice change action in the car before.

Another thing you can do is add needle roller ball bearings to replace any nylon ones. I've done this in my OE 986 shortshift and it's noticeably tighter and slicker to use.

Perhaps i'll look at swapping it out and maybe some better quality engine mounts next year.
Any reccomendations on mounts?

Stunning R listed by 911 Virgin this morning and yes I am biased as its my old car! Sold it back to Tom to facilitate my next purchase.

http://www.911virgin.com/porscheforsale/1241/Cayma...

If you're looking for a very nice example with all the critical spec look no further. There are literally no others with this spec / mileage and its priced very competitively IMO.

It currently has a very nice Kenwood head unit fitted with Garmin Nav, Apple carplay, blutooth, DAB, handsfree etc, which is a no-brainer to keep in the car as opposed to the geriatric original CDR-30. Tom has the OE unit and will refit if preferred.

you will regret that imo, it's really a life style car over any thing else, and while top notch at that, I did not see you in one !

great to tick box's and try things though and part exing one with your OPC for a new one is a clever move to get a new model, if that's your train of thought.

Hi David

I knew you would be along soon enough LOL! I looked at a 981 Spyder back in December 2016 before my GT4 came up and was very tempted then. Here we are 2 years on and I've decided now is the time. Last convertible I had was an S2000 over 10 years ago and I recall the evening runs out (before kids came along..) in the elements with the added sounds, smells etc so fancy another go and introducing my boys to the same. If a Spyder sees me more in the loop for a new slot in the future we'll wait and see.
In the meantime the R was the best Porsche I've owned as a road car and far more satisfying / rewarding to drive than the GT4 which I know we both agree on. The 1 single and significant issue I had with the R is the 987 cabin size - i'm 6ft 4 and even with the seat fully back there simply wasn't enough space for me to be fully comfortable for a longer spirited drive. My left leg was tight'ish between the tunnel and the wheel and using left lock I was having to compromise my hand positions and movement which as you will accept is far from ideal. Ultimately my height is the only reason the R wasn't the long term car I so hoped it would be.
From the GT4 I knew with the 918 buckets on full low I have loads of space so that is the plan with the Spyder.
I didn't buy the GT Silver OPC Chester car in the end, couldn't agree with the interior colour and no movement on price which in December was disappointing.
The 911V Cayman is the only R currently for sale in the UK with in my mind the perfect spec - provided you're not a leggy 6ft4!

there are 2 top notch 981 for sale atm and no shortage of choice now, but they look a tad pricey and dropping.
The gt4 is better in every area as a drivers car, so if you sold that for the R then I just don't think you will like the 981 Spyder.

I act used mine as a daily and all through the 2018 summer ! my OH loved the car to bits, but as a "drivers car" if you did not gel with the GT4 you will hate the 981 Spyder imo.

6.4 is an issue for sure, I have been helping some one buy a Porker of late(that size) and he just did not fit in any of my cars, so I talked him into a 997.2 C2S and he loves it.

if you want shorter ratios, A better engine, soft top, Steering feel,+ a bigger car, the best car for the job seems a manual 997.2 GTS Cab and cheaper than a 981 Spyder !

I really do think if the new one is a GT4 Cab with a 3.8 x51 or a 4.0 it will kill the old one price wise and we will see £10k drops if not more.

If you want to talk off line why I think you might dislike the 981 ping me an email, as my views upset the lifestyle owners lol but you seen more in tune to what makes a nice drive over what's good to be seen in.

I think if you modded the hell out of one than it makes sense at say £60k next winters prices ;-) but today with the new model coming and toppy values and all the down sides it has over say a GT4 or a R, it's very risky unless, as I say you have a deal with an OPC to give it away in part ex for a new one, £15k loss is cheaper than overs and you get to choose your spec but you would want a deal in writing.

I have new in box's a big disk kit and pads and GT3 air scoops, but I sold my R before fitting them.

best value mod imo unless you go the Richard Tipper route and spend £10k on a race set up !
or the next level up from disks only would be 996.2 GT3 calipers and 350mm disks again pricy over just a disk set up.

there are no short cuts, heat is the issue and the only way to remove heat is have better bigger disks.
this is a tried and tested route in the track hungry USA for 987.2 cars.

any way I have front disks and a full set of pads and scoops for sale at a BIG discount :-)

no, they are a work of art, I thought about buying a 987.2 normal Boxster to put them on lol (not kidding) great value cars atm the 987.2 Boxster S and a great drivers car at 1/2 the price of an R or Spyder.

When the warranty on my car is up next November I suspect I won't renew it. Too many little mods I'd like to do to the car, brakes being potentially one of them. Although the list of things I want to do to that car vs the list I can afford to do to it may cause an issue. laugh

I miss my R to bits :-( but needs must for finance reasons, hence looking at a 987.2 Boxster to drive about in for a bit, and of course my disks will fit one :-)
as with all basic bolts on's, you can easy swap back to oem at any point and 2 hours work.

rather sell my disks new in box's though to try and recoop the rather large outlay of them sitting under my bed !
