Anyway, I'm not here to argue stats. I'm more than happy with the GT4, and I would in no way would consider downgrading back to the R (as good car as it is). The GT4 is just better in everyway (apart from the electric handbrake & price tag!).
Don't forget our better fuel economy on the R too! tongue out Glad you're enjoying the 4. thumbup

My car is due its 4 year service next month.

Any idea what the cost of this should be? It's the major one, so I'm expecting some damage to the wallet but hopefully not too much!
Mine is booked in for this Friday.

It was pretty much £1100. That's absolutely everything.

I have just bought another R :-) as it happens , as I don't think the GT4 is better in every way , or if it is , not for the right reasons ! I think the R has a nice sweet spot for road use.
You could argue that a standard Cayman S makes a better road car than a R if not tracking!

The Cayman/ Boxster is such a good platform that even the 2.9 could be even more fun as purely a road car!

I am actually getting use to the E-Brake after initially having a dislike, one of my dislikes are the mirrors I prefer the ones on the 987.2

I can never work out if I'm to push or pull the thing! Hill starts are also a little unnerving, and of course no hand brake turns in the snow tongue out

Curiously why do you prefer the mirrors? I couldn't work out how to fold the mirrors back on the GT4 the other day, they possibly don't fold like the 987 do (not that its a game changer).

The mirrors on the gt4 imo don't seem to have such good vision as the 987.2,maybe it's the position lower on the doors or maybe it's just me and perhaps like the e-brake over time I will get use to them

I tend to agree. I was very close to going for a 2.9 because they look great value for money at low 20s for an 09 or 10 car with sensible miles. I even found one that had been specced with buckets! smile However I thought that once I took it on track I might have regretted not holding out for an R. Luckily for me the R turned up in time!

Yes the R makes a better track car out of the box so the 2.9 would have left you wanting

I like the free bits on the R if you buy one with Buckets, Spyder wheels etc and of course the cult status the R has only being 200 of them in the UK.

I could buy an S but 987.2 S prices are very high also, some even more money or the same price as an R !!, so my Choice was another manual R with buckets, Spyder wheels ,SS and PSE.
It just looked better value than a S at this time with that spec.

The overs on the new cars ie gt4/RS have dragged all the other car prices up at the moment, there was a nice 997gts with 4k miles for £74keekbut it did cross my mind that if I made £25k overs on the gt4 it would have cost £49k !

987.2 S seems to hold money very well. 997 GTS prices tell you what enthusiasts think of the cooking 991s, in my view.

Hehe nice price you got.

I would have massively haggled it down, but I've already got the entire major service cost out of that for free (£610ish). So couldn't then try and haggle down anymore or I might be told where to go.

£1100 was the total price. Cost to me personally is £480 ish.

I hope I'll be able to add some value to this debate in due course........ Fairly recently I bought the Autofarm Cayman RS that some of you may remember seeing reviewed in the various Porsche mags (and on here I think) five or six years ago.

As a reminder it started life as an 06 plate Gen 1 3.4 Cayman S with chrono and PASM. Autofarm decided to develop it to see what could be done if Porsche had not been hamstrung by their own model hierarchy. The basis of the development was a 3.7 Silsleeve engine with Schrick cams, IPD GT3 intake plenum and throttle body, carbon airbox and a full Milltek stainless exhaust with headers. This produces a healthy 367bhp. The car also benefits from a single mass flywheel, short shifter and Quaife LSD. It has a carbon bonnet, carbon rear hatch (Perspex screen)and Pole Pos seats along with 18" Rays TE-37s which all reduce worthwhile mass. It runs 355mm Brembo front brakes from an F50 and GT3 rear, along with the much-debated GT3 master cylinder.

Since I bought it I have added KWv3 coilovers, RSS fully adjustable lower arms and toe-links, Rennline solid top mounts, a Cup wheel and alcantara gear lever. It is set up pretty aggressively for track and is just waiting for a set of Cup 2s to get out there bothering GT3s (and GT4s ?). Despite this it is remarkably civilised and road-compliant, retaining aircon, stereo, leccy windows etc.

The cost of the initial modifications would have been entirely prohibitive (£30k+), however as a second hand purchase at less than the cost of the modifications alone, it was a far more interesting proposition.....

So, for rather less than the price of a Cayman R, I have a car that goes better, stops better and handles better.

The downside is that it is a heavily modified car, and thus its ongoing value is entirely subject to the vagaries of a very niche market. It will never carry the cache of an R, but then in terms of bang for buck I really can't think of anything that would run it close.

How will it stand up next to a GT4 ???? I look forward to finding out.......

My 987 Boxster Spyder just had its minor service done at the OPC and they found out that the steering rack needed replacing due to a leak (only covered 13k miles as it spends too much time tucked away)
Interesting... mine needed doing this time round too (10 plate with 22k on the clock) though did have the warranty cover... wonder if there are any others.....
