Looks great on track
Are you on a standard brake set up?
I've got an S1 Elise track car with a mate on standard brakes with upgraded pads which copes well, but it only weighs 700kg... Going to Mallory in a few weeks and thinking of taking the R as well.
Not looking to go for any record laps, just a brisk hoof around
Thoughts appreciated!

Great photos, they look so damn good on track.
I was offered a day at Oulton Park on Tuesday but couldn't get the time off work at such short notice, and it a bloody long way from Essex.
Cant wait to get back out there though.
As for brakes, a quality pad upgrade, GT3/ducts, some titanium shims and decent fluid will work wonders for the most part

Completely standard, so far. Though car has just been serviced, incluiding new brake fluid. Are you on a standard brake set up?

Bedford has some big stops from high speed so is quite tough on the brakes but I didn't have any issues at all

Yes, we do Bedford more than any other track in the Elise and the heavy braking at the end of the back straight is pretty full on into the tight left. Bedford has some big stops from high speed so is quite tough on the brakes but I didn't have any issues at all
Good to know the brakes coped ok, just need to get mine on track now alongside the little Elise.
Do you get track insurance? We get a few days included in our Elise insurance so would probably need separate cover for the R.

Re Insurance, I'm with Classicline, so get 6 UK track days included, so yes I was covered, Good to know the brakes coped ok, just need to get mine on track now alongside the little Elise.

Whilst the brakes stood up with no issues, I will upgrade the pads, fluid and fit the GT3 ducts soon. For the limited outlay it makes no sense not to, if you're going on track with any regularity

Does anyone here track an R with PCCBs? Most of the brake chat concerns how to improve on the standard steels set up. Any experience from owners of the 987 generation PCCB on track (or whether to avoid given replacement costs) gratefully accepted, thanks.
I did for a few years, but they do show signs of wear after 14k miles, they are night and day over a steel oem car though but then you get 6 pot GT3 calipers mated to 350mm disks all round ! so one would hope so.I think you can again refurb PCCB at £4k a set at this 350mm size, so I'll send mine off over winter to be done.
I sold my big disk kit to the Viper green R owner, be interesting to see how he is getting on with that as oem imo is lacking for track, more due to heat management than anything. bigger disks can only help that and will of course give a bit more bite due to the caliper being moved out.
across the pond it's seems the defacto route over oem.
no cheap options sorry to say, I think the 340mm disks are now £1.3k a pair ! and then you need pads, lines fluid etc.
Richard Tippers black R was about £10k brake upgrade, he tried a few cheaper ways and none worked so spent the money on a race set up.
if you own a PCCB car and don't fancy a £4k refurb, you can buy 350mm after market steel disks to mate with the bigger 6 pot GT3 oem calipers you have standard.

Hi Davidacross the pond it's seems the defacto route over oem.
The Giro discs mated with the DS2500 pads are an excellent upgrade, I have just done a week in the Alps and Pyrenees going up and down mountains and the brakes were faultless all week, including a dawn run down Mont Ventoux at speed which was quite brake intensive with no fade at all, really good bite and feel to them as well.
I will get GT3 brake ducts and braided hoses when i next change the brake fluid but for road use i think it is fine already.

good to hear, I miss my R :-( and the brakes is the only weak link, it just took so long to spend that sort of money on it, I sold the car 1st.....The Giro discs mated with the DS2500 pads are an excellent upgrade, I have just done a week in the Alps and Pyrenees going up and down mountains and the brakes were faultless all week, including a dawn run down Mont Ventoux at speed which was quite brake intensive with no fade at all, really good bite and feel to them as well.

really happy it's worked out well on the car for you.
I think it's the min the R demands it's so good every where else.
looks the bomb those 340mm units also.

Anyone got any views / comparisons between Ferodo ds1.11 - pagid rs 29 - endless (not sure which) pads? Use will be a couple track days a year plus road and upcoming Alps euro trip?
no point imo unless you change disks !!heats the issue here, fit pads which can take the heat and your disks will turn blue and your fluid will boil !! :-)
no cheap fix on 987.2 cars.
those 3 pads are all race pads, ds2500 is a fast road pad which will take 2 track days a year and not wake the dead .

I had RS29s in my Cayman GTS and and 996 GT3 they're great though do squeel a bit. My Cayman R came with Endless pads and honestly I think they're a bit better.
I know most people in this thread appreciate photo's of an R in the wild, so here are some photo's from my recent Euro tour of the Alps and Pyrenees.
The tour was organised by Petrolhead Tours https://petrolhead.tours/ and I really can't recommend them highly enough.
8 days of everything being organised, routes planned taking in the best roads and scenery that you really wouldn't see if you tried planning it yourself, two experienced tour managers, walkie talkies, pre-loaded sat nav's and a great bunch of like minded petrol-heads to tour with, and all your hotels booked and meals sorted. It really is a trip of a life time.
Touring Europe in a bright green Cayman R is really the stuff of dreams for me
2500 miles in a week and we got the ferry back from Spain...
I suppose the cars worthless now as it's done a few more miles....oh well
Next year i am hoping to be able to do the Spanish Tour or "Spanish Safari" as it is called.
