Just catching up on this thread but have often thought about a mythical 987 Cayman RS... In my mind it would have a 3.8 Mezger engine and about 150/200 kilos removed and eat GT4s for breakfast.
No need for a Mezger chap. 987.2 S base car, drop in 3.8 997.2 GTS (407hp) or a 991.1 powerkitted engine (430hp) either of them tweaked by Jens Ehresmann, minimum 430, maximum 450hp. Would be scarily fast and a real giant killer in a well tweaked 987 chassis. The only downside ? It’d be utterly pointless for road use ... Incredibly concept all the same.FYI guys,
The PCGB Cayman Register are hosting an event at Cressing Temple Barns here in Essex on the 21st September.
As its so local, myself and Mogsmex are going along so there will be at least 2 R's in attendance.
Anyone else fancy it just for an easy social

Well last weekend my R became worthless
It ticked over the 30k mile mark. To mark the occasion I took it to the greatest section road in the country (Henry Catchpoles video on it in an Aston N430 is worth a watch you YouTube) - The A93 from Braemar to Bridge of Cally.
On the way I picked up one or two flies (it was spotless when it left home).
It was an epic drive and the type of drive that makes me remember why I love the car so much. I'm just wondering why I don't drive that road more often tbh!

And I’m bloody jealous because I know that stretch of road so well.

Joehow; I couldn't agree more!
I've been driving the Cayman R as much as I can. Completely in love with it!
My initial conclusion is... leave well alone. There is nothing about it at the moment that I feel the need to change (though adding some PPF). The original owner (to whom I have spoken) specified a deliberately lightweight configuration; I am enjoying its purity.
Standard exhaust system: I can find no evidence that the sports version makes anything but more noise. Does anyone have a system weight or dyno comparison? *edit* - standard system weighs 33lbs (found a post from someone who had weighed it). Remus Ti was 22lbs. Not much saving!
The noise the standard system makes is delightful; it is civilised at lower speeds and howls deliciously when revved. Not inclined to spend money unless there is evidence that the standard system is throttling the car in some way.
Brakes (steel): I know these are widely held as the car's weak spot, but the power seems sufficient and I have had no fade issues in up to 20 miles of spirited driving. I am sure track time would be enlightening in this regard. Pedal feel seems fine; no trace of the rumoured sponginess (it has just been serviced).
Tyres: I will continue to learn the car's characteristics on the PZero N2 set supplied for now. They seem to grip well/progressively in the dry, but are not confidence inspiring in the wet. I am happy to drive around this until they are well worn. The PS4S beckons when that time comes - not worried about the N-rating.
I am having PPF (front end) fitted (today/Friday) to protect the paint. It is in very good condition with the currently low mileage, so worth protecting, in my view.
I can't keep my hands off it!

All of 7.6K now... however, I have no a/c, so mine is also worthless It ticked over the 30k mile mark. To mark the occasion I took it to the greatest section road in the country (Henry Catchpoles video on it in an Aston N430 is worth a watch you YouTube) - The A93 from Braemar to Bridge of Cally.
I would love to drive that section of road. Definitely on my list!
I travel in a Cayman R a couple of times a week, and I'm sorry to say, I really don't like it. Would never buy one for sure.
The guy went from a Golf R and regretted it straight away. The porker is really unrefined and to me doesn't feel very well built.
Having to choose between conversation and listening to the radio started my dislike.
It's on Pilot sports and I feel a lack of grip, certainly compared with my old MX5 on semi race Yoko's
Not bad looking I suppose mind.

It's about driving enjoyment, not being a passenger and having a chat ! You listen to the Flat 6.... And it's not about 4WD and grip. The guy went from a Golf R and regretted it straight away. The porker is really unrefined and to me doesn't feel very well built.

if he likes the Golf R then he don't like driving, it's that simple, the Golf R 's are very dull one trick ponies I bet he also had a DSG one and prob also bought a PDK R. If he hates it sell it !! I do wonder why people keep cars they don't like ! it will have held better value than his Golf R so he can get back into one and maybe put some ££ in his pocket now the Golf's have dropped like a bomb.
I also bet it's got 10 year old PS2 on it, as there is plenty enough grip from a Super sport or PS4S on these cars.
