have a pic of mine @ the oldest motorsport venue in the country last week, truly biblical weather and loved every minute of it
just great cars
just to add, when I bought mine a couple of years ago I briefly considered a 911 but couldn't get that excited about any like I was about the prospect of getting in an R (in my budget) also I feel a car HAS to be pretty, it's the reason I own a 987 and not a newer boxman
that said this is my fourth Porch and I still haven't owned a 911 so I obviously don't hold them on a pedestal as many do

Money smoney....
One day i will be dead and i certainly won't think on my death bed " oh, i wish my Cayman R didn't depreciate so much"
I will however remember my driving tours in a bright Viper Green Cayman R for ever though. Life is not a rehearsal,!

I assume PCCB's could be optioned from new on the R.
Makes it a rare beast indeed then - and a track monster?
yep an option when new, not a popular one it would appear as they were a bit spendy my car's pretty heavily spec'd up so binning the "R" ethos a bit but as I'm not a steering wheel wielding god it's perfect for me !Makes it a rare beast indeed then - and a track monster?

As a boy I loved the 911 shape, picture on the bedroom wall etc...….Edited by Mogsmex on Wednesday 13th November 09:51
Fast forward to 2014 and I finally bought my 1st Porsche - a 997.2 GTS which was a dream come true!
However, that was replaced by a Cayman GT4 which was then replaced by a 987 Cayman R alongside an E92 BMW M3 V8 Comp pack - practical 4-seater.....and then the R was sadly sold (i'm just too tall for the 987 cabin) and replaced by my current 981 Spyder.
I've enjoyed all 4 and would only be tempted back into a 911 if I could afford my perfect spec 997.22 GT3 club-sport but I have genuinely enjoyed using the Caymans and Spyder far more than I did the 997 GTS. All my mates take the piss asking when i'm going to buy a proper Porsche again.....blah blah blah
Some good points on all the last few posts.....
Every time I see a nice picture of an R , i have sellers regret !!
Budflicker is normally the guilty party , that car is just stunning ( i had a beautiful Peridot , but the Viper is another level IMO )
The white one does look good tho , especially with the ceramics.
Would agree with all the comments re 911 ownership ... its not the only Porsche out there , If i sell my 981 Spyder then I could see myself in either a 987 Spyder ( don't ask ) or even back to an R , the only 911 for me would be a GT model , and i think Ive missed the boat there , price wise .
I do love the Spyder tho , every drive out is an "event".
Keep posting the pictures .

Had our first in the R this September to Angouleme in France.
The rear wing did a sterling job doubling up as a breakfast bar in the tunnel..
The car is just as wide as my old 911's, was slightly worried I'd kerb them on the guide rails
Had a brilliant drive down, stayed in the heart of Angouleme in an old house with a fab private pool.
Saw some lovely cars whilst there, including this nice 993 parked up at the local supermarche.
Stumbled across an R someone was trying to sell in the main square....with a rather optimistic sticker price considering the mileage...
It was a great trip, including a 100 mile hoon around the forest roads to the south of the City.
If you've not been, it's a great weekend!

A backdated 993 made to look like a 964. That must be a first Had our first in the R this September to Angouleme in France.
