Lovely car.

Where did you get the front plate? It’s sticker isn’t it? I presume no issue with MOT? Thanks.
Pro plates I am pretty sure it was. The plate is the correct size, reflectivity, font etc, however I don't think it has a postcode on it, so technically not legal. It wasn't mentioned during the only MoT the car has had with it on. It was a nutache to fit - getting it perfectly lever and central was a bit of a task and then stuck on without any air bubbles (the curve of the bumper makes things harder). Worth it though IMHO.

So my wheels are back from their refurbishing and are no longer black. I never really liked the black as I always felt the black hid the design of the wheel. Also, unusually, I think the black make the rims look smaller. Anyway, the colour isn't one of the Porsche silvers, rahter a black base painted silver on top. The pics don't show it well but, next to Porsche OEM finish, the colour is much richer and deeper. It varies a fair bit in different light. All in all I think it has freshened up the car. smile

Looks mega Paul, typically bias. Lol
Mine were collected this morning and should have them back in a week or two.
Looks almost like my cars twin now with the sticky front plate too. biggrin

Opinions required please.

OPC Warranty expires next month. Car has always had warranty & is now on 17k miles (I've done 4k in the 15 months owned!)

So the question is, do i extend or not? It will be around £1400 for 2 yrs. Thoughts?

this is where I was last summer...…..I decided as the 987.2 doesn't seem to suffer with the engine issues associated with the earlier cars (one of the reasons I went R in the first place) to leave the OPC network, let my warranty expire and go feral biggrin

I went to Pie performance in the end for the major service and as I'm now free they fitted some nice (aftermarket !!!) braided lines when they done my brake fluid change

(I already have a Fabspeed exhaust tip, Bosch flat wipers and non approved PS4S tyres so I'm properly struck off now smile)

I’m trying to look for a cayman R PSE exhaust (just the mufflers would do)

Any chance people have upgraded and have one lying around in surplus?

Thanks!

This is exactly where I find myself. My R will be 8 years in a few months time and I think it’s time to take it out of the OPC network so I’m not restricted by everything being OEM. I’m still on the original Mol battery so I assume that must be nearly on the way out.
Out of interest what subtle mods can you do to these and are any a DIY job? What are braided lines re the brake fluid change?

1. Modern tyres not the ancient N rated PS2s.
2. More aggressive geo.
3. 5mm front spacers

Brings the chassis alive IMO.

Hi everyone

I’ve been following this thread for a while now, so thought I’d introduce myself and my Cayman R, that I purchased just over 10 months ago.

I’m in the similar position of not having a Porsche warranty and starting to do the popular subtle mods to improve the car without losing its original look or character on the road.

I can also recommend a custom suspension geometry setup from someone who knows what they’re doing.

They’ve dialled out a bit understeer and added a bit more weight and feel to the steering, which has already been said makes the car feel more alive, especially on ‘turn in’, with out making it feel twitchy or nervous.

8 year (main)service booked for the beginning of March and I’ve pulled the trigger on getting the 997GT3 short shift kit fitted to take the slight sloppiness out of the standard gear change, hopefully no big surprise bills from OPC will be added to service cost.

Other forthcoming mods will be Pagid RS-14 brake pads, braided hoses, GT3 brake cooling ducts and a performance brake fluid (any recommendations appreciated) to hopefully cope with the odd track day.

And hopefully better weather not too far around the corner.

White looks stunning on silver wheels. Nice list of intended upgrades, personally i like either the PFC brake fluid or Motul RBF 600/660.
I have the OEM Porsche short shift fitted but also have a Numeric setup to be fitted but haven't got around to doing it yet.
I think the OEM short shift is a really nice throw but agree it could be a little tighter in terms accuracy of movement.
Enjoy smile

this and change the MOL before you get stranded, and remove the microswitch on the clutch also another daft thing to get you stranded !

Most cars have mods anyway by now even OPC cars. the 111 check is more about tyres and batttery to flog you crap very expensive ones.
they would never check disks, pads or anything use full in a111 check.

MY OPC R came with chineese 50p rear pads, lucky it's one of the 1st things I swap out, they just crumbled up so thank goodness I did swap my pads.

Taking all of the above on board especially having done Pembrey last year & have Anglesey booked this year so far.

What are thoughts from people who have just bought / looking to buy regrading mods and prospective values ?

I know when i came to sell my M3 CSL at 14 yrs old buyers had switched and were looking for non modified cars.

Agreed it is crap how OPC focus on Tyres / battery and the like.

My nearest Indy is Marque 21 in Dorset, Any other suggestions for Independents? I do not mind travelling for a highly respected outfit.

Personally id rather buy a modified car providing the modifications are tasteful and purposeful that actually add to the car.
As David says above, almost every E46/CSL owner who actually drives their cars add an AP/Alcon brake kit. The E46 brakes are crap and its widely regarded as a "must do" mod if you actually want to press on.

In reality, almost all the mods R owners do can be returned to stock should the need arise, so just add the bits you feel you want to improve and enjoy it.
Example: Richard Tipper (Perfection Valets) CR has KW Clubsports, AP5000 brakes and a whole host of other mods. Personally i think its one of the best modified examples out there of the Cayman R and only continues the theme of a focused car.

Its your car, do what you want and enjoy it smile
