Ok update on the brakes... I was looking at girodiscs and a pad upgrade, stainless steel lines and better fluid.

All in was over £3k ?? so carried on looking and might have an option to go with AP 6 pot callipers and around, 382mm front discs and 362 mm rear, da2500 pads and stainless steel lines etc for about £4.5k so seriously considering this and will post pics of I do
Deffo the way to go, but bin off the DS2500. Crap things that don't work that great on the road leave alone the track. Also deposit all sorts on the discs. AP upgrade sounds bloody cheap for both axles at that money Andy.
Best of luck.

For £4.5k I’d go with the APs albeit with some better pads. Also consider the GT3 master cylinder if you want a shorter more supportive pedal.

Yea it’s working out cheaper than the fake eBay kits! Any other pads you can recommend? I’ll ask what they can supply, price includes them custom fabricating bells and brackets so if I can get the right pads I’m going to pull the trigger and go see them Thursday

I run f2500 on my road car, no noise what so ever and very powerfull. Yes it's a basic pad, but cheap and great for road use only imho.
rubbish or track and that's why you might see deposits as you will over heat that pad on track.

"Road style refinement but with race material ability to withstand heat " not sure on that last part lol

ds1.11 seems common in the USA
ceramic pad so will work at double the heat a 2500 will.

Most track pads make noise so not easy to choose a pad for both, on my Golf CS the 2500 have been amazing vs the oem.
on all my tracked cars I have only ever used RS29's

As said DS1.11s work well, ive used them in my Clio.
However my pad of choice for road/track is still an RS29. I run RS29s all round on my Cayman R and they're in the front of the Clio with RS4-2 in the rear. Also run RS29s in my Mini GP1 and my Impreza, so i always seem to go back to them as i just like how they work. You always know what you're going to get with them. They're ceramic based so no corrosive dust to eat your discs or paintwork.
Superb pads with medium bite, very kind to discs and great pad life. Can squeal but my Clio is the only application of which i have had a small amount of squeal in, everything else including the Cayman they're silent.
My only complaint of 29s is they're very dusty but its a small price to pay for their performance.

If you want big stopping power for track use, Carbotech XP6/8 or a PFC compound such as an 01. They're carbon metallic based so can spark up if not up to temp and they will consume discs and can attack paint if left uncleaned. Massive amounts of bite which will require a recalibration of braking style, but you'll be hard pressed to find more impressive stopping power.

Just my thoughts.

I've used PFC 08 pads in my 964 for road/track driving. They are a bit noisy (too noisy for pure road use IMO) but have been excellent on track. They are also pretty dusty.

Does it not bother any R owners that all these modifications nullifies any chance of an OPD Extended Warranty? I am sensing in the spirit of R owners, there is less concern on this.
Thanks

Like all things, some folk find value in an extended warranty, however personally id rather continue to hone the car for what i enjoy.
A few modifications further enhance the purity and performance of these cars. The value of that to me is far greater than a warranty.

Look at how many GT cars are modified further for track performance and nobody bats an eye to that. I also don't see the Cayman R as a vehicle plagued with warranty worthy issues. The DFI engine is a superb unit and for the most part the car is very well made and engineered. If something breaks on her, i'll fix it. smile

Wee update on my R - last week I got the cruise control I had fitted coded. After doing so I went and filled up with petrol. Jumped back into the car and was slightly surprised the car read only 7/8th full (I always brim the tank). The forecourt wasn't totally flat however, so I assumed it was just that. Then I did about 15 miles over the next few days before filling it again. Same thing. 7/8ths full. Can you guess the issue yet?

Turns out that when the instrument cluster is coded there is a fuel tank size option, and with the R having a smaller tank by default, this needs to be set for the smaller tank size and mine had been changed to the larger, hence the dial mis-read. Yesterday the car went back to the garage who changed the tank size option and all is now good again.

Camera distortion making it look like I'm running some mad rear camber!

Anyway, last Friday it was a great day up here in north east Scotland (peak temp I saw was 27.5 which is as hot as it really gets here), so I went for a good blast out Deeside and over the A93 from Braemar to Blairgowrie. For those who don't know it, this is (probably) the best road in the UK with everything from long sweeping bends to rollercoaster like sections that undulate and twist in an almost comical manner. The R felt epic. I recently put new rears on the car (front had lots of life left) - N rated Super Sports - and I am convinced the car feels better balanced with the N rated Super Sport rears than the previous which were the standard Super Sports (and I mean above and beyond the improvement being just because they are newer). With hot and dry roads the grip was fantastic and with very little traffic, the drive was about as good as they come!

Just south of Gelnshee on the return leg. Didn't stop for many pics as the roads are so good you don't want to stop. biggrin

Awesome in every regard, that road looks sensational - very jealous.

Can I ask where you got your front no. plate from? Mine has a very small crack in it from where someone decided they couldn't park properly & I'd like to replace it with one like that, so much more aesthetically pleasing.

They are showing "sold out" at the moment but I wonder if this is more to do with covid related shutdown or something. Plate lacks a postcode but ticks all other boxes re legality from reflectivity to sizes etc. My car passed MoTs with it but I'm sure you may find a jobsworth who'd fail it so I throw the standard plate in the boot in case.

I have only just realised that you could get an R in Aqua Blue.... I am going to assume that this was a pretty rare option?

I may well get one, thank you for linking to the number plate company. I noticed this other version they do, a tinted version..

...claims it abides to BSAU standards but really? Thoughts?

I have seen a few, quite common. White seems most common, then the Perdiot Green, Black, then Aqua Blue.

Red, Orange or Yellow are by far the rarest colours to find from my search for an R (which has latest a year). Here is a blue one for sale

Though if you think about it, the crack in the number plate avoided a crack in the front spoiler, so on reflection I would say a stick on plate, whilst it looks good, is less of a protection buffer.

Been on the market for a while now. I think the roll cage must be putting people off. The steering wheel and gear knob/boot looks like it has done that usual horrid thing with Alcantera (on touch points) and turned to a shiny brittle finish.

Well I'd certainly avoid the tinted ones as they look awful IMHO, but re legality - The only thing with mine I can find which wouldn't conform to the rules is the lack of makers postcode. Reflectivity seems identical to a standard plastic one when you put them side by side and shine light at them and the font and size are correct. I think you'd need someone very jobsworthy to take issue, but they do exist.

One thing to note - fitting these is a pain in the ass. With the shape of the front being curved it is awkward to get them straight, level and in the middle. You'll also have to fill any holes left by the plate holder - I used a razor blade to cut off the plastic that was proud of the bumper from the OPC screwing on the plate holder and then used gluegun glue to fill the holes (this is easy to use and, as it has some flex in it, will bend with the bumper.
