Ultimately either will be a compromise of sorts - Cayman R I'd love and I am guessing the ownership experience would feel more special. But my wife would not go near it. 981 Boxster S would be a slight compromise for me, but still a great car, my wife may enjoy using it now and again, and nice to go out together in.
Is this on the pro or con list Going to see a 911 in Basalt Black tomorrow to see how the colour is. I think I drove past one parked up today, and it did look premium and pretty slick looking as a colour. Admittedly I'll be viewing up close a 911, but its as best I can do. I'll let you know how I progress. Beginning to think the non-metallic black is a bit boring now! so as blacks go, maybe the Basalt Black aint that bad.

looks like the 981 finish that, the 987.2 silver is lighter and has a metalic fleck in it.julian718 said:

Weirdly I was reading this thread last night and ended up being parked next to a basalt black Porsche this afternoon. I wouldn't normally have paid too much attention to the colour, but it was in the sun so I had a closer look, but as Porsche 911R said it did look just like it had pollen on it because of the metallic fleck in the paint even though it was clean. Had never noticed before, maybe it was just the light. AAAndy said:

Oh, thanks, that is one sure way to put me off buying the R. But i appreciate your honesty. How can 918's and hi end Porsches of the 2011/12 era have been painted Basalt Black if it is a bad colour. Beats me. I guess I'll have to see it in real life tomorrow! ...but it cant be that bad surely? julian718 said:

All these things are subjective so it's about what you like. Whether it be black, red or yellow. If you like it, just go for it and you'll love it.
Low spec R with relative moon miles here. Price is a bit optimistic?
Good to see she's been enjoyed.

I'd say, incredibly optimistic. Borderline deluded. Good to see she's been enjoyed.

^^^ Actually meant AT and they're asking £40k but it's private so hey £39k must be possible.

What would you expect it to be worth out of curiosity? 29K? I ask as I spoke with a few dealers today and they said even at serious high mileage they'd never expect an R to start with a 2 in the price.
Well that one would, 80k miles with wrong seats and wheels.I would not even pay £29k. Very hard to value that car.
Also front end respray and missing stickers.

Lovely. I have a bizarre proposal to suggest to you. I notice you have the full leather seats and Alcentera door armrest and grab handles. I have the opposite combo. Would you be interested to trade my mint condition leather door armrest and grab handles for your Alcentera ones? Not the whole panels, just those two pieces.
Best regards
Apologies for the slow reply, I would like to keep mine as is because for me the alcantara is one of the bits which sets the CR apart. I'd be interested in the opposite swap ie my leather seat pads for your alcantara ones, but I think I know what your answer will be to that! Best regards

Would love to know what those dealers part-ex offer would be if that car rolled up...would commence with a sharp intake of breath and ...."she's got some miles"...then a £2xxxxEdited by Andyoz on Tuesday 21st July 10:14

As per other views on here, personally I wouldn't be tempted, even for £29k for all the reasons that have been stated (and certainly not the asking price of £35k). I would worry about being about to resell it when the time came, and how much you'd lose).
Especially when you think about other decent cars like the white CR that JZM recently sold which had 33k miles, manual with buckets, good service history etc. From memory that was marketed at c.£36k and still took around 6 months to sell (so who knows what sale price was privately agreed).
