Finally got around to having a GT3 master cylinder fitted to my Cayman R and I'm left wondering why the hell I didn't do it years ago!

The feel of the brake pedal is improved beyond all recognition. The pedal is firmer, higher and all that horrendous mush is just gone.

The braking is just so direct now, and any fears you might have about a higher, firmer brake pedal making it more difficult to heel and toe are, I can assure you, completely unfounded.

Got a track day booked on Monday and can't wait to see how she feels.

One thing to note is that it seems to be quite tricky to bleed the system after the master cylinder is fitted. Mine wasn't right after it was done, but fair play to GT One in Chertsey, they got me straight back and bled the system again until I was happy. Great service from Peter, Craig and their team.

If you've been thinking about having this mod done, just do it!
Best mod ever, but it will still sink on a track day if your fluid and pads are not good

Agree GT3 MC is a good mod. It improves pedal feel a great deal. I've got Pagid RS29s on mine now, once I sort out the tyres, I'm looking forward to taking it on track and seeing the improvements.

Along with the GT3 MC, I'm running Pagid Blacks (RS-14) and uprated fluid. No softness at all on Monday, even on my last couple of runs which were a good 20 minutes each. If anything, the brakes stayed firmer than on my 964 Cup with RS-19s and SRF. This may be down to the RS-14s, which seem to have better initial bite, or better heat dissipation on the CR. I use OZ Ultraleggera wheels for the track, which should provide much better airflow than the Cups 1s on the 964.

Other mods done so far are a short shift, GT3 brake ducts, and the aforementioned OZ wheels with Cups 2s and 5mm shims. It's all coming together nicely!

Looks like we're all doing upgrades at the moment...mine is now booked in next month for the missing sport button. biggrin
I added the Sport button to mine - didn't want the Sports Chrono when I ordered it, since I never liked the look of the wart on the dash, but I do like the extra slip without turning PSM off completely.

Yep, I had the brake ducts fitted too, since they're only a few quid anyway.

Need to decide on pads at some point - was trying to decide between Pagid RS29 or RS14, since there seem to be positive and negative reports on both, depending on what you read.

All that said, I've been pretty happy with the Porsche Sport pads that are standard on the Cayman R, but then I don't push anywhere near the limit on track.

How are the RS29 pads on the road?

Is there enough bite when they're cold?

Bite is fantastic all the time but the squealing on the road is extremely annoying (goes away mostly on track). I detest the squealing so much that I've put textars in for use between track days and will put the RS29s back in for the next track outing.

I found the RS14s to be very noisy on the road as well, up until they'd been properly bedded in (i.e. the 3-4 stops from 110mph to 50). Since then, they've been reasonably quiet.

that will not give you the pad transfer a Pagid needs though, Pagid pads are VERY fussy with other pad material on the disks.

Bite is awesome - they do squeal a bit but you just need to modify your braking slightly to (mostly) avoid it.

Was swaying towards RS29 pads, but worried about on road performance, since I just can't face the thought of swapping between road and track pads throughout the year. Don't really want the car to squeal like a stuck pig when I'm not thrashing it, though :-)

I'll see what state my old pads are after Monday and then make a decision.

Indeed, they both need pad transfer. I used to swap between RS15 (Pagid grey) and textar in the same way. Disciplined bedding in after the swap gets them working as they should (usually after the sixth 80 to 20 stop). I was really hoping to stick with the RS29s for everything but the squealing on the road is just so painful that I was starting to think twice before driving it on the road. And that would be not good at all. My first experience of the RS29 has confirmed that it is a race/track only pad.

I've tried various pads on various Porsches and come back to RS-29 every time. My Cayman currently has Pagid Black on the rears, but those are pretty much finished, so I'll be going back to the RS-29s. Yes, they're squealy on the road, but I've just decided that it's just about preferable to the hassle of changing pads before and after every track day. I've also come to the same conclusion with tyres - looks like the Cup 2s will be staying on for all purposes ! Sadly I just don't have the time to be messing around with wheels, pads etc etc.

On road performance is great - they don't squeal at all when cold no matter what you do. Once they start to squeal you just need to use more braking force - i.e. harder and shorter and don't release early to soften the nose bounce effect if you want to avoid completely. If you do release for smoothness, then they'll squeal a tiny bit. It's not too difficult to make the required adjustments to braking style.

Had 9E (Horley) fit a GT3 MC today, along with RS29's, SFR fluid and GT3 brake ducts...

What a massive difference, like chalk and cheese, only drove her home in the rain so no hard braking, but the pedal feel is like my old GT3. Should give confidence when pressing on.

Thanks to Ken and his team.. Great Service (as usual)
