Needless to say they're asking a fair chunk more than I got for it.
Its the first one I've seen advertised at over £50k for years. Overpriced, or is the market beginning to turn for the Cayman R now?
Overpriced.
How so? The market really is headed only one way with the R. By this time next year end they'll be starting with a 6
No AC. It may well sell but if they start selling for more than their new price then that'll be some watershed.

Yes, I was testing the water so put it on as at what I thought was quite a high price (as I didn't really want to sell), but when someone offered me close to asking price I thought it was too good to pass up so accepted. In fact I had two offers of that amount within a day of the advert going live (and a third offer just slightly below that) so maybe I underestimated the demand?
Strange bunch this lot. They are selling a green 993 Targa for 69k. It was previously listed with another dealer not too long ago in the low 60s. Do they really have a wider audience than other dealers in this day and age? You can argue they add value by preparing the car better but still.....

That advert is class - you know someone is no writer when their second sentence of description starts, "in summary". Or it would do if they knew the difference between summary and summery. Or maybe they think this is a car for the summer. Who knows?

The advert states the Cayman R was an EVO COTY. It wasn't. It states it was an AutoCar COTY. It wasn't. To be fair on this one, it was AutoCars "UK Best Drivers Car 2011".

Ridiculous advert and ridiculous price. Looks a nice car though.

That milage coupled with spec, it must have been £45K at least surely? Any less would be giving it away.
I hope you haven't been too badly burned, but must have been £45k which is fair, and what with this company likely putting a warranty on it... all in all, £50k is fair.

You seem astonishingly optimistic on the value of the R increasing by a huge amount. Given most examples these days would sell somewhere in the thirties with better condition and lower miles ones creeping into the forties, upon what do you base a belief that in 12 months they will be north of £60k? That's an incredible prediction. I can't really think of many cars that have increased in value by 50% in a year anytime recently. Unless you think the £51k asking price of Andym3's car represents what they are worth. Personally, I think his car would be in the £37k ballpark privately and a sensible dealer price would be c.£42k at a stretch. I wonder which of us is closer to the money....

That dealer looks like a bandwagon jumper that probably scoffed at the whole Cayman/Boxster scene until the £££ cash register starting happening ...and they've got a second near identical one coming into stock too...going to try to set the new price threshold with that old trick?

We're in a bubble here lads.

That's kind of what I thought when I placed my advert. There was no real need nor did I even particularly want to sell , its just that I wasn't using it much so I thought I'd test that market and put it on at £45k just to see what would happen. I wasn't expecting to get a lot of interest at that price, but instead got 3 offers over £40k in the first day, 2 of which were £44k!

Wow, so lack of AC isn't an issue then apparently.

My take on it is that over Covid people decided they wanted to blow their discretionary spend budget on a sports cars. Instead of doing the usual and buying a 911, they actually had time to deep dive research...they eventually find the 987.2 which is a relative bargain in the Porsche range and then some do the man maths and upsell themselves to the R.

That's an incredibly good result! I own and love one and think that's mental money. I still think 60k for one of these is not going to happen and I agree with the above - that's a bubble and not true values.

If that dealer is going to be holding two R's priced in the low £50's then good luck to them. They could get caught out if not careful.

Thing is if they sit on them for 6+ months waiting for the market to come to them (LOL) which the likes of Paragon do it's not great for lads who actually want to buy them and drive them.

Hope all that crap isn't starting again...it's just a bloody tricked up Cayman LOL.

They now start with a 5. Admittedly at time of writing there isn’t, but there has been and non Cat ones at that. I never said ALL 981 GT4s will start with a 5, but they have begun to do so.

I find it unfathomable how those herewith can’t imagine a time when an R starts with a 6, but hey let’s see!
Best regards

I wish they were all worth £1 tomorrow and £2 for a low miler. Then people can stop fannying about with mileage and values and actually go drive the damn things. One thing is for absolute certain, and that is we are seeing the last of pure sports cars like these, they will never be made again and we will soon all be forced to drive something that resembles white goods from Appliances Online.
Those that are left will be paying £5 per litre of fuel and some!

Drive them while you can!

Looks like I got in just in time! Bought mine at the end of November at what I thought at the time was strong money, but couldn't be happier! The whole value vs mileage question does nag in the back of my mind, but having said that I've been getting up at before dawn on the weekends to go and make the most of clear roads and have managed to rack up 2500 miles in 5 months!

Now getting to know the car better with every drive, and usually return having done about 3-4 hrs driving with a big grin on my face! Wales is next on the list, then a major service! eek

Like people have said, the future is going electric and where is the fun and engagement in that?! Enjoy them while you can fellas!

Yeah, PSE Off dulls it right down..also can tame it down with throttle technique. Luckily I have lots of remote roads here.

I've a separate Softronic map with it deleted which will be loaded soon.

It's definitely not a forever map but Scott offered to include it when I called him smile

Hi Folks,
I don't post very often, I'm a mate of Boxsey who used to be on here a lot until he got his GT4.

I bought my R back in 2016 and since then have kept it under OPC care and warranty solely because of a fear of the PDK failing which happened to a locally owned CS that I knew.

Having just picked my car up from a large service and having paid a large bill I am just wondering whether anyone on here has had any PDK woes, terminal or otherwise?

Any feedback gratefully received.

Thanks,
Kevin
