Anyone Ordered a 718 Yet ?
Discussion
I doubt that. We are all grown ups. And I would expect everyone but one or two to be polite.
I wouldn't pretend to like the car, but I wouldn't be unpleasant to some guy who is paying a lot of money for one.
For some people, it's doubtless an excellent car. I would like to know who, though!

I'm sure any new 718 buyers will be hairy chested enough to take it?
I'm not so sure, initially at least. Many come on here and post pictures, seeking affirmation of their choices. That affirmation might be a bit thin on the ground to start with. Of course, as time passes and there are plenty of other 718 owners on here that will change. But as you know in the case of PDK it takes a while until the nay sayers realise they are in a minority and quieten down a bit. Whilst I haven't a friend of mine has. He placed his deposit about two months ago. He is not really much of a car person and is unable to decide whether he wants a basic model or an S, but coming out and Audi TT you would expect that!
Not everyone who buys a car is a track fiend or a pistonhead and I'm sure he will get as much pleasure out of his four-cylinder car as I do from my six. Live and let live etc

Hi
I Specd. my 718 last week. Sold my 986 on here week before last, having owned it from new for 14 yrs. An excellent car. I was very sorry to see it go as many of you will understand. I've read the reports and watched the videos this week. I agree I shall miss the howl as you reach up the rev. dial. Its also very nice to have a six cylinder engine, otherwise its mostly superior to the outgoing model. A lemon, etc. I don't think so.

At the end of the day if you want a new Boxster/Cayman then you have no choice, there will not be enough old stock to go around.
In six months time everyone will have forgotten about the missing 2 cylinders, much like they will have about the extra turbo on the 911.
For those that are really bothered, then they will seek out a second hand fatter engined car, may even help the residuals of those cars. But time/progess will march on regardless (of whether or not it really is progress).

Well i wasn't expecting such vitriol from some people! Should have known better I suppose as this is Pistonheads after all!!
I do not believe the 718 will be a "lemon" I have never known Porsche produce such a thing but I appreciate that so called "enthusiasts" will bemoan the loss of the flat six as they did air cooling, manual boxes and hydraulic steering. All sacrificed in the interests of emissions - but do they make any geat difference off the track in day to day road driving. I have been lucky enough to enjoy a number of Porsches over the years both four cylinder 944 series, six cylinder 911, and six cylinder Boxsters and they have all been great fun. I am not planning a 718 for a while but I am sure I will have one in next couple of years (GTS or Spyder maybe?) and I am sure it also will be great fun. I took out a 991.2 C4S Cab for an hour earlier this week and With the Sporrts Exhaust fitted it did produce some lovely noises and the power delivery left nothing to com plain about. So if the 718 behaves similarly it will be a great drive.
Good luck to those whio get some of the early cars (BTW, have you notoiced that the sports exhaust has now appeared on the options - that is a must!)

That'll be the extra 2 turbo's Mark. Besides Porsche haven't copped out by going 4 cylinders on the 718. Porsche entry level cars historically had boxer 4 configuration. It's just a pity it doesn't sound nicer. We all love a screamer, but Porsche like many other manufacturers can't get around the euro 6 regs economically without going down this route. In six months time everyone will have forgotten about the missing 2 cylinders, much like they will have about the extra turbo on the 911.

I currently own a 2014 Boxster and placed a deposit for a 718 to replace it about 6 weeks ago (I'm waiting for a Cayman).
I'm not a huge fan of the way it sounds (although I don't think it's terrible) but the extra torque will suit my needs. I chose a 718 as I've loved the last 2 Porsche's I've owned. Fancied an M2, but sold out until late 2017 and Audi's I've had in the past have left me disappointed so a TT is also out. Pretty much leaves me with another Porsche!
I was thinking of starting a similar thread to this, but couldn't be arsed with being branded some sort of automotive retard by the PH masses for ordering a car I like. I used to love the mutual support the PH community gave on the forums. Now its seems the forums are just one long thread of "I don't agree with your car/engine/driven wheels/exhaust/etc (*delete as applicable) of choice so that makes you an idiot".
Who'd have thought owning a Porsche would be something to be embarrassed about? I guess it's like admitting your an alcoholic... "My name is Neil and I've ordered a 718"
Tin hat on, awaiting 718 hate.
