I use Admiral Multi Car for the GTS and the wifes A3 (my daily is company insured) so it makes the GTS a 6K per annum car but still social domestic and commuting. Im 33, wife is 31 and we paid £850 for both cars. This years renewal came in at £1050 and old Admiral to get stuffed, they got it back down to £850 again. It makes the GTS £550.

I am looking at getting a sports car as a weekend and occasion trip to work car. Looked at a Cayman 15 plate and they wanted £10,000 I'm only 22 but my similarly priced a5 is only £650 a year.
Anyone know someone who might be better for the insurance as it would be a deal breaker at that price.

Haven't you tried the usual suspects - confused.com, moneysupermarket etc? Can't believe you can't get a much better quote unless you have an awful record.

Actually they are usually useless on anything vaguely non-average in my experience, I nearly always get a better price from a "Specialist"

Not my experience - but I am relatively geriatric and pay only just over £300 for my 981S.

My Audi is with Lv it's the new series 2 version and there where the cheapest by about 50%. I tried go compare and Lv was still the best.
I have asked the salesman and he just said to try vw insurance which wasn't any better for me. I have been driving for 4 years with no claims live in a safe area with off road parking so can't see how I can be any lower.

Shame as I was really looking forward to having something a bit faster and more enjoyable after spending nearly a hour each way to work it's nice to have something a bit more fun to drive when I'm off.

Which Audi A5 have you got? I think that this is a problem with the insurance group. Most of the A5s seem to be in the 20s, the Porsche is in 37 (assuming it isn't an S).

Some insurers won't insure young drivers at all on cars above a certain group, others will provide cover, but at the stupid type of premiums that you have been quoted. I guess there will always be some who will do it reasonably, but finding them is going to be harder as you go up the insurance groups.

At least, that's how it worked way back when I was your age.

My a5 is the 190 bhp ultra s line according to parkers its group 32 so can't see how the Porsche is so much more when it's 39 from what I was told. Looked at a DB9 earlier for comparison and it was only 6k. Can't seem to get my head around the insurance groups at all. Seems a lot of super cars are much cheaper than most high end sports cars.
Might have to wait a few years till I'm 25 then get something really fun.

The problem with the groupings is that the relationship with premium isn't always linear. You might find that some insurers have a cut-off at group 35 where they just won't insure young drivers on anything at that level or above. That then allows other insurers to effectively profiteer by offering cover but at a completely ridiculous price.

Try Manning UK? I've been with Lockton for years but this year they wanted £1,750 for my 997 GTS and 993 C2 combined, whereas Manning for a virtually identical policy (unlimited trackdays, repair wherever, guaranteed value etc) came in at just over £1,000. No tracker needed for the GTS either
