Drove 718 Boxster S today. LOVED it. I was amazed at how quickly to revved to red line and that great chunk of extra torque was really something. The car did not have PSE but even so, the sounds made in Sport mode were great to my ears - but I have always favoured a deep exhaust note rather than the falsetto that many on here seem to like.

The PASM on normal mode gave a very compliant ride with the switch to sport being very noticeable giving fantastic handling on fast B roads.

Overall it felt a few generations newer than my current 987 Spyder - which of course it is. I am going to have to think long and hard about losing the exclusivity of the Spyder (passed on the option of 981 Spyder due to lack of PDK) to move to mainstream Boxster but a 718 GTS is going to be VERY appealing.

Get out there and try it and see for yourself!

Huh? There is nothing false about the noise of a high revving NA flat 6

He said "falsetto" i.e. in the higher frequencies.

had a drive in a 718 boxster S yesterday, will be doing a longer track test in a few weeks time in June.

I liked the rear end styling and interior tweaks more in person.

engine noise is a shocker and not in a good way.

I was out in my CGTS today and Porsche can make all the minor interior and exterior 'tweaks' they want, the utterly glorious-ness of a naturally aspirated flat six will never be equalled by a turbo'd flat four. It's the heart and soul of car, and so much more than just the power plant.

The 981 is just a fabulous platform for a road car...

Fixed that for you.

I recently read in a magazine that 9821 is, "Porsche's almost perfect sports car". Dead right. driving

No, you didn't. You replaced it with a true and immaterial statement.

Feedback from 718 non S today:
No sport exhaust- sounded fine, authentic to me, not so pleasing on downshift
No pasm- didn't miss it on 20's
Sport chrono- rev matching v. Unnatural. Doesn't suit manual
Manual- clutch bit heavy, changes sweet though
Looks- great
Performance- instant, right upto 7000 revs
Overall like it a lot
Very good value
Very fast!

Read the first test drive I've seen on the 2ltr. 718 Boxster. Its on this mornings Autocar web site. I've driven both cars a number of times in recent weeks and have ordered the 2ltr.
