Still trying to work out if I want Connect + in the 718.

Now I understand if you dont spec nav, then the basic Connect gives you Apple Car Play etc.

I dont use Apple, and want Nav, so the question is, do I want Connect Plus? The most retarded aspect is it doesnt use your phone's data (as I understand it), nor does it have its own data like BMW, but I have to get ANOTHER phone contract with data and stick the SIM in.

Have I got this right. Oh and it's 800 quid.

Can anyone who has Connect + shed more light?

2 types of connect; normal one you can get instead of Nav, and Connect + which is on top of Nav...

So Nav now comes with Bluetooth (how generous!):

Central information and communications system with: high-resolution 7-inch colour touchscreen including proximity sensors for enhanced display of content on PCM; multi-touch gesture control: map views on touchscreen can be rotated in any direction using two fingers; mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth® interface; voice control system; two SD interfaces for playback of audio files; radio with RDS twin tuner and scan/phase diversity for optimum reception; single CD/DVD drive; USB port for various iPod® and iPhone® models (1), MP3 players and USB memory sticks containing MP3 tracks; universal audio interface (AUX) for connecting other external audio sources; Navigation module with: hard drive containing maps for most European countries; 3D map display and 3D navigation map supporting city and terrain models with satellite image overlay; dynamic route calculation (TMC/TMC Pro) (2) or real-time traffic information (component of Connect Plus); automatic route tracing and subsequent reverse route navigation, and navigation by compass and GPS in regions not covered by map data. Notes: (1) For information on compatibility with the latest iPod® and iPhone® models, please contact your Porsche Centre. (2) Only available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland

Connect (only without Nav):

Smartphone tray: the centre console contains a special smartphone tray, which hands over the function of the mobile phone aerial to the external aerial of the car, sparing the mobile phone battery and providing optimum reception. Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is the smart interface enabling in-car access to the apps of an iPhone® via PCM. Using Siri®, the Apple voice recognition interface, it is possible to compose text messages, have SMS read out, send replies and make phone calls, or listen to music and podcasts. Note: Only available in conjunction with PCM without Navigation Module.

Connect Plus (only with Nav):

Connect Plus module with: smartphone tray in centre console for optimised reception and battery-saving operation; wireless Internet access for use of WiFi-enabled client devices, e.g. tablets, laptops or smartphones, inside the vehicle; LTE telephone module for simplified access to telephone functions on the move and optimised voice quality during calls; real-time traffic information with live indication of current traffic situation by colour markings and featuring dynamic route recalculation; Google Earth and Google Street View for visualising routes and places by means of 360° views and satellite imagery; Apple CarPlay including Siri® voice recognition software, enabling in-car use of iPhone apps; Porsche Connect app for transferring navigation destinations from your smartphone to the vehicle, for displaying calendar events in your smartphone on PCM and for streaming music via Internet radio or music apps; Porsche Car Connect including Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (PVTS) for retrieving vehicle data via a smartphone app and for remote control of selected vehicle functions. Note: The services real-time traffic information, Google Street View and Google Earth include an initial free subscription period of at least 12 months. Please visit www.porsche.com/connect if you wish to continue usage (subject to charge) after this period. A data-enabled SIM card and a separate, valid subscription to a mobile network provider (subject to charge) are required for use of these services and wireless Internet access.

Its the last line that's the kicker and on top of that there is STILL a subscription!

Looks like the Connect+ data is free for 2 years from October 2016:

http://connect-services.porsche.com/gb/en/navigati...

So I presume those of us picking up our cars after that time who have picked Connect+ should be presented with a SIM on collection.

I am not sure whether I am speccing it but if I do I will definitely confirm the above with the OPC.

Just about all of this comes as standard on BMW's sat nav system that I have currently in my M235i, apart from the Apple guff.
The live traffic info, dynamic route recalculation, and the ability to transfer nav destinations from phone to car are three aspects I've found particularly useful.

Would be a step back to lose stuff like this. Looks like I'll be speccing Connect +.

(Presumably) having been forced by market pressures to include exotic things like bluetooth as standard, and only moderately overcharge for sat nav - Porsche have now decided to rip you off for something else which comes either as standard or only moderate cost in other cars. Situation normal....

I have the Audi Connect+ system in my RS4 and the only thing of real value is the real time traffic updates. I have a £5PM giffgaff data sim which the kids use by jumping on the wifi hotspot. The google maps is a bit crap and never gets used. I would have liked this in the Macan that I've ordered but on seeing the price I decided it whilst useful it wasn't £800+ useful.
